Gus Edwards Doubtful For Week 1
3 years agoWhile Baltimore Ravens running back J.K. Dobbins (knee) was activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list on Monday, fellow running back Gus Edwards (knee) is the furthest away and is likely doubtful for Week 1 of the regular season. When healthy, Edwards figures to be the No. 2 behind Dobbins, but it looks like he won't be ready to go early in the year. Baltimore also has Mike Davis, rookie Tyler Badie and Justice Hill to pick up the slack behind Dobbins. Like Dobbins, Edwards missed all of 2021 with a torn ACL, but the 27-year-old had 144 carries for 723 yards and six rushing touchdowns in 2020. Edwards will probably go undrafted in standard 12-team leagues to begin the year, but he'll be a handcuff waiver-wire pickup for Dobbins once he's healthy.

Gus Edwards Runs Seven Times In Wild-Card Loss
3 months agoLos Angeles Chargers running back Gus Edwards ran the ball seven times in a Wild Card Round loss to the Houston Texans. Edwards was not targeted in the passing game and turned his seven rushes into 22 yards. He looked out of gas most of the season, but was still solid enough as a backup to J.K. Dobbins when both backs were healthy. Edwards signed a two-year deal before the season, so he should be back with the Bolts next season along with rookie Kimani Vidal.

Gus Edwards Could Operate As Lead Back In Wild-Card Game
3 months agoLos Angeles Chargers running back Gus Edwards (ankle) upgraded to a full practice on Friday and has been cleared from the injury report for wild-card weekend and will be active on Saturday against the Texans in Houston. With fellow RB J.K. Dobbins (ankle) questionable to play, there's a chance Edwards could lead LA's backfield in touches this weekend despite missing the final two games of the regular season due to his ankle injury. Edwards made the start in his last game in the Week 16 win over the division-rival Denver Broncos when Dobbins was out and had 14 carries for 68 yards and two rushing touchdowns. He'll only be worth considering as a fantasy flex in playoff lineups if Dobbins is ruled out. Edwards had only four rushing scores in 2024 in his first year in LA as the backup to Dobbins, and the Texans allowed the third-fewest half-PPR points per game to RBs this season.

J.K. Dobbins, Gus Edwards Limited Again On Wednesday
3 months agoLos Angeles Chargers running backs J.K. Dobbins (ankle) and Gus Edwards (ankle) were both limited in practice for the second straight day this week on Wednesday. Barring a setback on Thursday, Dobbins should be active for Saturday's wild-card playoff tilt in Houston against the Texans as the Chargers' lead back. Edwards, meanwhile, might need to upgrade to a full practice on Thursday to avoid a questionable tag going into Saturday after he missed the final two games of the regular season. Both backs have dealt with injuries in 2024, but the 26-year-old Dobbins has been much more productive as LA's primary backfield option when they've both been healthy at the same time. Against a Texans defense that has allowed the third-fewest half-PPR points per game to RBs this year, Dobbins checks in as a low-end RB1 for fantasy managers in the first week of the postseason.

Gus Edwards To Return To Practice
3 months agoAccording to Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh, running back Gus Edwards (ankle) is expected to return to practice on Wednesday as the team begins preparing to face the Houston Texans on Saturday in the wild-card playoff round. An ankle injury kept Edwards out for the final two regular-season games, but a return to practice early in the week is a good sign that he'll have a chance to be active this weekend for the start of the postseason. The 29-year-old was a big fantasy disappointment in 2024 in his first year in LA after he scored a career-high 13 rushing touchdowns in Baltimore in 2023. He ran for a career-low 365 yards and four touchdowns on 101 carries in 11 games (six starts). If Edwards is active against the Texans, he'll be a low-volume, touchdown-dependent flex play, at best, while working as the clear backup to J.K. Dobbins in the Chargers' backfield. UPDATE: Edwards was limited in Tuesday's practice.
