Tyler Stephenson Leaves Game Early Thursday
2 years agoCincinnati Reds catcher Tyler Stephenson left Friday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals early after taking a foul ball off the shoulder. He was unable to make a throw to first after fielding a swinging bunt grounder and was replaced by Michael Papierski immediately after. That's not good. Stephenson has already dealt with a fractured right thumb that forced him to miss a month and could be looking at a lengthy absence once again if the injury is as serious as it looks. This is a tough one to take for Stephenson and his fantasy managers, who will struggle to replace the .319/.372/.482 slash line he has given them, especially out of the catcher position. Papierski will likely see an increase in playing time if the injury is serious, but his .384 OPS is uninspiring to say the least. When Aramis Garcia returns from the COVID-IL he should also see more at-bats, but he also holds a lowly .516 OPS.
