John Marino Traded To Devils
3 years agoThe New Jersey Devils have acquired defenseman John Marino from the Penguins in exchange for defenseman Ty Smith and a third-round pick in the 2023 NHL Draft. Marino has five seasons remaining on a six-year, $26.4 million contract, while the 25-year-old appeared in 81 regular season games and finished with a career-high 24 assists. Smith, who was drafted 17th overall in 2018, spent the previous two seasons with the Devils and had a solid rookie season. Marino carries more value in re-draft fantasy formats as he is established at the NHL level and the 25-year-old will help the Devils compete after a busy offseason with notable additions to the team.

John Marino Set For Utah Debut On Tuesday
3 months agoUtah Hockey Club defenseman John Marino (back) has been activated from Injured Reserve and appears poised to make his team debut on Tuesday against Montreal. Utah moved Dylan Guenther (lower body) to Injured Reserve in a corresponding move. Marino, an offseason trade acquisition from New Jersey, has yet to play in 2024-25 due to back surgery. He recorded 25 points (four goals, 21 assists) in 75 games with 57 shots and 89 blocks last season. Utah will initially use him in a third-pairing role, which limits his fantasy value, but Marino should move up in the lineup once he's shaken off some rust.

John Marino Ruled Out Until 2025
6 months agoUtah Hockey Club defenseman John Marino (back) will not make his team debut until 2025. He has yet to play this season, and the team now announced that Marino has undergone surgery on his lower back, which will keep him sidelined for 3-4 months. Marino was acquired from New Jersey in the offseason, and Utah planned to utilize him as a top-four piece in defense. He has previously shown off good two-way ability and registered 25 points (four goals, 21 assists), 57 shots, and 89 blocks in 75 games with the Devils last season. With Sean Durzi (shoulder) also on the shelf, Mikhail Sergachev eats up massive minutes as Utah's No. 1 defenseman, while Michael Kesselring and Juuso Valimaki have seen their roles increase.

John Marino Upgraded To Day-To-Day
7 months agoUtah Hockey Club defenseman John Marino (upper body) is now considered day-to-day by the team, reports Craig Morgan of PHNX Sports. Marino was initially listed as week-to-week last Thursday. However, it looks like he has taken a big step forward in recovery and could be considered for game action soon. Marino was an offseason acquisition for Utah and is penciled in for a top-four role. He is coming off a 25-point campaign in 75 games with the New Jersey Devils. The 27-year-old boasts 107 points (18 goals, 89 assists) in 328 career games, meaning Marino doesn't have a lot of offensive upside.

John Marino Out Week-To-Week
7 months agoUtah Hockey Club defenseman John Marino (upper body) wasn't on the ice Thursday when the team began its training camp and is considered week-to-week. Utah picked up Marino from New Jersey in the summer, but his attempt to find some chemistry with his new teammates ahead of the 2024-25 campaign has hit a roadblock due to an upper-body injury. After starting out in Pittsburgh, Marino played two seasons with the Devils. He recorded 25 points (four goals, 21 assists) across 75 appearances last term, adding 89 blocks on the defensive end. Marino is projected to play on the second defensive pairing once he's healthy enough to join the lineup.
