Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Evan Phillips closed out the team's 7-6 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday to earn his first save of the year. It was a come-from-behind victory for the Dodgers, who trailed 6-0 going into the seventh inning of the game. The team's primary closer Craig Kimbrel pitched in the eighth inning while the team was still trailing and he wound up earning the win for the game. Phillips has been one of the team's top relievers this year, compiling 11 holds and pitching to a 1.54 ERA and a 0.80 WHIP while maintaining a 5.0 K/BB ratio across 35 innings. Despite his success this year, he had failed to convert his previous two save opportunities before this one.--Andrew Ericksen - RotoBaller

Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Evan Phillips (shoulder) is expected to rejoin the roster for their series against the Chicago Cubs. Phillips has been working his way back from a shoulder strain that kept him sidelined for part of the postseason last season. He began the season on the 15-day injured list, but he appears almost ready to return. Phillips hasn't posted pretty numbers during his rehab assignment, but those stats don't matter too much. The Dodgers are hopeful that Phillips can slide right back into his role as a high-leverage option at the back-end of this bullpen.--Andy Webb - RotoBaller

Los Angeles Dodgers right-handed reliever Evan Phillips (shoulder) made his fourth minor-league rehab appearance on Friday and is "close" to a return, according to manager Dave Roberts. Phillips is scheduled to make another rehab appearance on Tuesday. The 30-year-old veteran is recovering from a torn muscle in his rotator cuff and began his rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City on April 3. In four appearances so far for OKC, Phillips has allowed four runs (two earned) on five hits while walking one and striking out six in 3 2/3 innings of work. Barring a setback, it appears that he'll rejoin L.A.'s bullpen and make his 2025 season debut before the end of April. Phillips recorded 42 total saves for the Dodgers in the last two seasons, but after they added firepower to the back end of their bullpen in the offseason, he's expected to be used as more of a setup man when he returns.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Los Angeles Dodgers right-handers Tony Gonsolin (back) and Evan Phillips (shoulder) are both scheduled to begin minor-league rehab assignments with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Thursday. Gonsolin is scheduled to start on Thursday and pitch around two innings. Gonsolin is recovering from a back injury that he suffered in early March while lifting weights, but both he and Phillips are getting close to rejoining the big-league roster in the month of April. Given L.A.'s stacked starting rotation, though, it's unclear if the 30-year-old Gonsolin will serve as a starter or long reliever for the Blue when he's cleared to be activated. Phillips, 30, didn't pitch at all during spring training due to a right-shoulder injury that had been bothering him since the World Series last October. He led the Dodgers in saves the last two years but has lost considerable fantasy value after the team added Tanner Scott and Kirby Yates to the bullpen in the offseason.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Los Angeles Dodgers right-handed relief pitcher Evan Phillips (shoulder) will throw his first bullpen session of the spring on Friday, according to the Orange County Register's Bill Plunkett. Phillips knows that he will not be ready for Opening Day in the two-game series against the Chicago Cubs in Tokyo, Japan, but he is progressing well in his recovery from a subscapularis tear and isn't far behind schedule. The 30-year-old was unavailable for the World Series last fall against the New York Yankees, but he might be able to make his 2025 debut in early April. After the offseason signings of Tanner Scott and Kirby Yates, Phillips will be pushed further down the bullpen pecking order whenever he returns and probably won't be an option for many saves, if any at all. Phillips also missed time with a hamstring injury in 2024 and lost the closing gig upon his return.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
