Will Smith Secures His Third Save On Wednesday
2 years agoAtlanta Braves relief pitcher Will Smith struck out two over a scoreless inning to earn the save during Wednesday's 4-1 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies. He entered the game in the ninth inning to protect a three-run lead. The 32-year-old threw 17 pitches, firing 13 for strikes to earn his third save of the season. Atlanta has had two saves chances in as many days since primary closer Kenley Jansen was placed on the 15-day injured list due to an irregular heartbeat. A.J. Minter got the first shot for a save chance on Tuesday, but the Braves turned to Smith on Wednesday. Smith has been solid this season, posting a 3.30 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, and 31 strikeouts over 30 innings in 2022. Fantasy managers should add both Smith and Minter in all league formats as the Braves will likely split save opportunities between the two relief pitchers while Jansen is sidelined.
