Oneil Cruz Expected To Be Called Up This Weekend
2 years agoPittsburgh Pirates shortstop prospect Oneil Cruz is expected to be called up for this weekend's home series against the San Francisco Giants. The 23-year-old is ranked as the team's No. 3 overall prospect by MLB Pipeline and has tantalizing upside. Last year, over 69 games split between Double-A and Triple-A, he slashed .310/.375/.594 while compiling 17 home runs, 19 stolen bases, 47 RBI and 62 runs. An ankle injury has held him to just 50 games at Triple-A this year. His production has been down from his eye-popping 2021 campaign, but he's still been extremely impressive nonetheless. He has hit .231/.338/.431 with nine home runs, 11 stolen bases, 33 RBI and 39 runs. If you have room on your roster for another bat and you're looking for a high upside player who could boost your lineup down the stretch, Cruz is a fantastic add before he becomes unavailable.
