2 years agoNew York Yankees relief pitcher Clay Holmes notched his 10th save of the season in Tuesday's 2-0 win over the Rays. Holmes entered the game to pitch the ninth inning with a two-run lead. He struck the first two hitters out, allowed a single, and then ended the game with a flyout. The 29-year-old has been superb this season, going 4-0 without a blown save, a 0.31 ERA, 31 strikeouts, and just three walks over 29 2/3 innings pitched. Teammate Aroldis Chapman (Achilles) has started throwing bullpen sessions, but the closer's role may not automatically be his again once he returns, given how well Holmes has pitched.
