Welcome back, RotoBallers, to my PGA DFS Pivots for DraftKings! This week, the PGA event is The Canadian Open.
After a two-year hiatus, The Canadian Open returns. The field is top-heavy this week as some big-name golfers are prepping for The U.S. Open next week. A handful of golfers also arrived late to the property this week. "The longest day in golf" concluded Monday with some golfers being scattered across the country trying to qualify for the U.S. Open.
With the field being so top-heavy, we can expect ownership to be even more condensed near the top of the board. If we are playing large field GPPs, it may be even more important this week to build unique lineups. Often when in short or weak fields, the likelihood of duplicated lineups increases slightly. This could be a week to remember that leaving salary on the table can be one of many ways to have a unique lineup.
The Canadian Open - DFS Lineup Pivots
Sam Burns ($10,000) – What does Sam Burns have to do to get more respect. Currently projected to be the lowest owned golfer in the 10k range. Burns recently beat Scottie Scheffler in a playoff at The Charles Schwab and two months earlier won the Valspar. Burns, who is known as an excellent putter, has found his form on the greens after not having his usual success early in the year. He has now gained over four strokes on the greens in five out of his last six events. Burns has also been excelling tee-to-green. In his last start, he gained 7.5 strokes in that metric. Burns is in great form and could be low owned relative to his price point. This combination is very attractive in GPPs.
Tony Finau ($9,400) – Tony Finau’s form could flying under the radar. He recorded his second top-five finish within a month at The Charles Schwab. But his ball-striking stats really tell the story. In his last four starts, Finau has gained 14.8, 1.4, 5.6, and 7.4 strokes tee-to-green. That is a vast improvement from earlier in the year when he lost strokes in that metric in three out of four tournaments between January and March. Finau also has found some consistency with the putter. He has gained strokes putting in three straight events.

Brendon Todd ($8,200) – Although Brendon Todd just missed out on qualifying for the US Open, he arrives in Canada in good form. Todd finished in third place in his last start at The Charles Schwab. He gained 6.2 strokes tee-to-green that week. Todd has also gained strokes on approach in five out of his last six starts. Over the last 24 rounds, Todd ranks second in the field in fairways gained. I expect Todd to lean on his accuracy off-the-tee and improving approach play to perform well this week.
Adam Long ($7,800) – Adam Long may be going overlooked this week. The Duke graduate could be a great course fit this week. Over the last 24 rounds, Long ranks 16th in the field in ball striking, 20th tee-to-green, and 13th in fairways gained. Those are excellent numbers for a golfer in his price range and projected ownership.
David Lipsky ($7,300) - Perhaps my favorite GPP play. David Lipsky has shown flashes of strong play this year. Over the last 24 rounds, he ranks 12th in the field on approach, 15th in fairways gained, and 27th in ball-striking. His approach ranking is not surprising. He has gained strokes on approach in five out of his last six events. At a low salary and single digit ownership, Lipsky could be a key GPP play this week.
