Colorado Avalanche goaltender Pavel Francouz (groin) has been officially ruled out for the start of the season. The Czech netminder underwent adductor surgery in the offseason and still needs time to heal. Francouz had a solid year behind Alexandar Georgiev last season, finishing 8-7-1 in 16 appearances and having a 2.61 goals-against average with a .915 save percentage and one shutout. With Francouz out, Justus Annunen is set to fill backup duties early in the season. The 23-year-old has played in four NHL games, going 2-1-1 and posting a 3.92 goals-against average with a .859 save percentage.

Colorado Avalanche goalie Pavel Francouz is likely to miss the beginning of the 2023-24 season after having off-season adductor surgery. Francouz seemed set to start the season as Alexander Georgiev's backup on a contending Avalanche squad, but that is now in question. The 33-year-old's career has been decimated by injuries, as he's only managed to suit up for 73 games across four seasons. When he plays, he has been good, as shown by his .919 SV% and 2.49 GAA (25.0 GSAA) across those four seasons. He will make for a good streaming option in fantasy leagues whenever he is confirmed to start for the Avs.

Colorado Avalanche goaltender Pavel Francouz (lower body) will make his first appearance in two months Sunday against Anaheim. Alexandar Georgiev has gotten a lot of burn with Francouz out and matched a franchise record with a seventh straight road win Saturday versus Los Angeles. Over the course of the season, Francouz has had only 15 outings, going 7-7-1 with a 2.53 goals-against average and a .919 save percentage. One of his last appearances was a 5-3 loss to the Ducks, but Francouz has a good chance to make a winning return, with this being a matchup against a team that averages the second-fewest goals in the league (2.49).

Colorado Avalanche goaltender Pavel Francouz (lower body) has been ruled out for three weeks. He was already missed a few games while dealing with a lower-body injury and it's now clear that Francouz won't be available until March. The 32-year-old has posted a 7-7-0 record this season as Alexandar Georgiev's backup, allowing 2.53 goals per game with a .919 save percentage and one shutout. Jonas Johansson has been the No. 2 behind Georgiev in Francouz's absence, but he's now back in the AHL and Justus Annunen has been called up to provide cover.
