USFL Quarterback DFS Picks
Kyle Sloter (New Orleans Breakers) - vs New Jersey ($10,800)
His price went up $600 from last week, but Sloter is still my favorite option on this slate. He threw for 397 yards last week against Houston and has now tossed 241 or more yards in three consecutive games. You just don't get that kind of reliable volume in this league. He did throw three picks last week, but that seems like a fluke.
Case Cookus (Philadelphia Stars) - vs Birmingham ($8,000)
Price jump here for Cookus, but still nice value for Bryan Scott's replacement, who was 22-for-30 with 190 yards and two touchdowns last week. I trust this Stars offense. Cookus doesn't have the ceiling that Scott had, but he's a better play than a lot of other QBs in this league, whose production is just too volatile.
USFL Running Back DFS Picks
Mark Thompson (Houston Gamblers) - vs Pittsburgh Maulers ($7,100)
The Maulers defense has struggled against the run this season. Meanwhile, Thompson has seen at least 13 carries in each game and had been one of the most reliable backs in the league until last week, when his 14 carries resulted in 10 yards. Expect a bounceback against a Maulers team that allowed 113 rushing yards and two touchdowns to New Jersey last week.
Paul Terry (Philadelphia Stars) - vs. Birmingham Stallions ($4,900)
With Darnell Holland out, Terry should get the start in Week 5. Last week, he had 11 carries for 62 yards, plus added three receptions. He produced a season-low nine yards as a receiver, but the number of targets that he gets makes him a player with a decent floor/ceiling. Love the value here.
USFL Wide Receiver/Tight End DFS Picks
Isaiah Zuber (Houston Gamblers) - vs Pittsburgh Maulers ($9,800)
Zuber isn't a safe play because of volume concerns, he has three touchdown receptions on the season and was targeted seven times last week. The reason I like him is that he faces a Maulers team that allowed 200 passing yards on 83.3% completion to the Generals last week. Even Houston's struggling passing game should be fine this week, with Zuber likely to be the beneficiary of that.
Johnnie Dixon (New Orleans Breakers) - vs New Jersey Generals ($8,100)
Dixon's numbers were down last week, as he caught just two passes. But he was still targeted five times and he made the most of those two receptions, finishing with 43 yards. Dixon proved he isn't as reliable as I had hoped he'd be, but this Generals team did allow a Maulers receiver to catch nine passes for 110 last week, so there's definitely bounceback potential here.
Diondre Overton (Philadelphia Stars) - vs Birmingham Stallions ($5,100)
The Stars have liked to spread the ball out, but Overton interests me because last week with Case Cookus taking over at QB, Overton led the team in receiving yards with 73 and caught a touchdown. Bug Howard and Devin Gray might get more chances, but Overton is who the Stars look for when they need a big play. I like the ceiling that provides more than the Jarvis Landry-esque numbers we saw from Gray last week.
Derrick Dillon (Tampa Bay Bandits) - vs Michigan Panthers ($4,500)
Dillon has been targeted nine times over the last two games. He caught all nine. That includes a six-catch, 124-yard effort against Houston. Last week was a letdown spot, as he caught three passes for 26 yards, but I still think Dillon's reliable hands make him a strong fantasy value pick heading into the Week 5 slate of USFL games.
USFL D/ST DFS Picks
Tampa Bay Bandits - vs Michigan Panthers ($3,700)
I really like the value here. Michigan's offense came to life in Week 4, but Shea Patterson still threw three interceptions. The Bandits held the undefeated Stallions to 16 points last week and didn't allow a passing touchdown. This defense should feast on Patterson, who has really struggled this season.
