Shane Bieber Looking To Rebound In His Second Start Of May
3 years agoCleveland Guardians starting pitcher Shane Bieber was shelled in his first start of May, which came against the Toronto Blue Jays last Saturday. He lasted 3 1/3 innings and allowed eight hits, three walks and seven earned runs while failing to record a single strikeout. The 26-year-old has shown concerning velocity dips this year, averaging just 90.6 mph on his four-seamer, but his outcomes weren't bad before last Saturday's start. He went 1-1 with a 2.45 ERA and a 0.96 WHIP over five starts in April. He currently has a strikeout rate of just 21.5%, down from 33.1% last year, and he's allowing a barrel rate of 13.4%, up from 9% last year. We'll see if he's able to bounce back in his next trip to the mound against the Minnesota Twins on Saturday.
