Packers To Pursue Another Wide Receiver?
3 years agoAppearing on the Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport suggested the Green Bay Packers could make a play for one of the veteran wide receivers still without a home. The free-agent receivers Rapoport called out included Jarvis Landry, Odell Beckham Jr. and Julio Jones. It remains to be seen if the Packers feel confident with their current trio of wide receivers in Allen Lazard, Sammy Watkins and second-round rookie Christian Watson out of North Dakota State. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers has a history of trusting his veterans and is now without Davante Adams and Marquez Valdes-Scantling. An incentive-laden deal could make an addition very realistic for Green Bay while presenting an opportunity for any of these receivers to have a meaningful role on a contender. Landry led this group of free agents last year with only 570 yards receiving. After arriving with the Los Angeles Rams, Beckham certainly looked revived but is coming off an ACL tear in the Super Bowl. Jones battled a hamstring injury for most of the year and had the worst season of his career. A signing would be good news for Rodgers, but would provide limited standalone value and would cap the value on Lazard and Watson.
