One and Done Selections - Wells Fargo Championship
Joe Nicely - Russell Henley
Alternate - Max Homa
Well…maybe I was crazy for not simply firing up Jon Rahm last week in Mexico against a KFT-level field. Regret has me seriously contemplating using Rory McIlroy this week in a similar spot. However, I guess I’m just stubborn, as I want to stick to my preseason plan of making every effort to use the correct players at the correct times, instead of letting emotion dictate my decisions.
As a result, I’ll keep McIlroy in my hip pocket and send out Russell Henley this week for the Wells Fargo. It’s a little concerning that Henley’s most recent start was also his worst of the season, but digging into the stats tells me that an ice-cold putter was the main culprit that led to his missed cut at Harbour Town. I have little concern about putting this week at TPC Potomac, a layout that is a true ball-striker’s paradise. Russ fits that bill, as his T2G numbers over the last 24 months are downright elite.

Spencer Aguiar - Russell Henley
Alternate - Doug Ghim
It was a nice $500,000+ effort from Tony Finau last week in Mexico, and it still resulted in a negative week in profit/loss since multiple participants in this contest had Jon Rahm.
My player pool is marginally thinner than I would like for this event, as I am down suitable options like Matthew Fitzpatrick and Corey Conners, but I am going to go with my next safest play on the board in Russell Henley, who I believe has more upside than meets the eye.
Henley ranks third in this field for ball-striking, and while I tend to prefer his potential at courses with short iron proximity, his accuracy off the tee makes him a safer option than most because of his inclination to avoid playing bogey-golf.

Riding a heater now after last week, looking to make it back-to-back winners to chase down these other sharps in here. I’ve been waiting for an event at what appears to be a difficult course with a bit of a depleted field to throw Hatton into the mix, this week feels like the perfect week. He’s going to be flying a bit under the radar this week, but it’s hard to tell why for me. He’s been playing really well recently, he’s just been a bit off with the driver. I’m not sure that will matter too much this week other than a couple of holes, and the rest of his game has been in plenty good shape to win this particular event. Plus, he seems to step up to the occasion when the courses get difficult and that’s going to be key this week especially if the rough gets long or any kind of wind/weather pops up. I think this is a perfect time for Tyrrell to add another victory to his tally and grab me two wins in a row in this contest.

Andrew Putters - Webb Simpson
Alternate - Tony Finau
TPC Potomac is not a regular stop on the tour, however, we do have some data to pull from this course. I’ve got Webb Simpson popping in several places this week. He mainly is trending up in short-term Ball Striking, short-term SG/SG, and Fairways Gained. He also does well on fast bentgrass greens. Tony, on the other hand, is looking to break out very soon and be back at the top of leaderboards week in and week out, as he has done in the past. Looking for Webb to contend for a victory week.
