Cal Quantrill Activated, Set To Start On Saturday
3 years agoThe Cleveland Guardians have activated starting pitcher Cal Quantrill from the COVID-19 related injured list. He is set to start Saturday's game against the New York Yankees. The 27-year-old has made two starts so far this year and the results have been somewhat mixed. He's pitched a total of 9.2 innings while allowing six hits, four walks and four earned runs. He's compiled four strikeouts across his two starts. The most concerning thing out of the gate for Quantrill is his reduced velocity. Last year, he averaged 94.3 mph on his primary pitch, his sinker. This year, that's down to 92.7 mph. The average velocity on his other primary pitch, his cutter, is also down from 88.4 mph last year to 87.0 mph this year. We'll see if he can get his velocity back up and generate some better results against a struggling Yankees lineup on Saturday.
