RotoBaller PGA: One And Done Staff Picks - Mexico Open at Vidanta

The PGA RotoBaller staff digs into their One and Done selections for the Mexico Open at Vidanta. Here are some under-the-radar plays and picks for this week's event.

Here at RotoBaller, we are always searching for ways to give our readers the best fantasy sports content possible. With that goal in mind, we are very proud to announce the weekly PGA “One and Done” column will be back for the fourth season.

In this feature, our golf staff of Joe Nicely, Spencer Aguiar, Andrew Putters, Owen Vrabel, Matt Miller and Josh Bennett will provide their weekly golf picks every Wednesday. The purpose of this article is to present you with alternative options to consider and hopefully make your selection a much easier process weekly. With that plan in mind, let's get started!

For an in-depth breakdown of the top DraftKings and FanDuel plays, check out Joe Nicely's weekly Horse For The Course which highlights the best fits for the week's course. One and Done Selections - Mexico Open at Vidanta

Joe Nicely - Gary Woodland

Alternate - Davis Riley

Having the Zurich Classic and Mexico Open in back-to-back weeks makes me question lots of things, the primary of which is, does the PGA Tour need some NFL-style “Bye” weeks? Oh well, action is action, I suppose, so we head south of the border for this brand-new event.

Jon Rahm is undoubtedly head and shoulders above the rest of this field, but using him in a OAD contest this week sort of feels like using a bazooka to kill a spider. After Rahm, things get pretty murky, pretty quick, which is normally a sign to start thinking outside the box.

While I considered going in several directions for this event, I landed on what’s a pretty vanilla choice in Gary Woodland. I’ve always loved his talent, but have been very concerned about his health in recent years. Woodland seems to have put those worries to bed for the moment, as he’s looked downright spry in recent months by posting a pair of top-fives during the Florida Swing and a top-10 at Valero. This layout should fit him nicely and he’s not a player that I have any grand plans for down the road.

Spencer Aguiar - Tony Finau

Alternate - Cameron Tringale

I've beaten the drum the entire week on all platforms that this could be a spot where Tony Finau can find the winner's circle again, and I am sticking to my guns in the RotoBaller OAD contest.

Finau is the only golfer in this field who grades in the top-16 in all categories on my model, and his pristine iron play should fit nicely on a course where he will get slower greens. That second part is important because he can be a little more forceful and aggressive with his putts if he can pin hunt for four days, and I think he walks out of Mexico as the champion if he continues to trend positively with his second shots.

Yearly Earnings - $5,598,618
Yearly Cuts Made - 13/14

Matt Miller - Jon Rahm

Alternate -

Desperate times call for desperate measures. I need a good showing this week and I have no choice but to take the heavy favorite, Jon Rahm. If we dig deeper, this is a little bit of a two-part pick.
First, Jon Rahm is the best player in the field this week by a large margin. If this plays as a birdie fest, Rahm has made it pretty clear that he is not a fan of putting contests. That being said, the field is weak and Rahm is hungry for a win. Even if it isn't the most ideal setup for the Spaniard, I have a hard time believing he'd make the trip to Mexico if he wasn't serious about winning.
Second, Rahm has been a bit underwhelming this year. It's not that he's had a bad year because he hasn't. The results just have not backed up the fact that he goes off as a favorite nearly every week. As other players begin to catch him, I don't feel the need to save Rahm for a big event because I'm not entirely sure he hasn't a better chance of winning one than some of the other top players in the world.

Yearly Earnings - $1,624,314
Yearly Cuts Made - 11/14

Owen Vrabel - Tony Finau

Alternate -

Yearly Earnings - $4,960,609
Yearly Cuts Made - 12/14

Josh Bennett

Alternate -

Pick to come.

Yearly Earnings - $3,099,481
Yearly Cuts Made - 11/14

Andrew Putters - Chris Kirk

Alternate - Tony FInau

Chris Kirk grades out as a top-five player in the field this week.  He is great on what the community is calling “resort” style golf courses. He also is a birdie machine.  If Chris can have an okay putting week, I can see him making a push to win this week. As for Tony, I also love him on this track.  He grades out 15th in my model, which is a little surprising, considering how his results have been as of late.  I really do not believe you can go wrong with either player this week, but for me, I am going with Kirk.  I feel is a little more reliable at this time.

Yearly Earnings - $2,873,286
Yearly Cuts Made - 10/14
