Bryce Elder Called Up To Start Tuesday's Game
3 years agoThe Atlanta Braves have called up right-handed pitching prospect Bryce Elder from Triple-A. He will be the team's starting pitcher for Tuesday night's game against the Washington Nationals. This will be the MLB debut for the 22-year-old. While he'll have the unenviable task of facing the great Juan Soto in his MLB debut, the matchup is a generally favorable one. Elder, who is rated as the Braves' No. 5 overall prospect by MLB Pipeline, had a fantastic year in the minors last year. He began the 2021 season in High-A and wound up being promoted all the way up to Triple-A. Across 137.2 total innings in the minors in 2021, he had a 2.75 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP while averaging 10.1 K/9. He'll likely see his pitch count limited in Tuesday's outing, so he's a risky streaming option even though his long-term upside potential is high.
