2022 RBC Heritage - PGA DFS Overview

The Course: Harbour Town Golf Links

Par 71 - 7,121 Yards, Greens: Bermuda (Poa overseed), Designed By: Pete Dye

This Pete Dye beauty is one of the shortest layouts these pros will face all year. Its lack of length is a refreshing change of pace from the stretched-to-the-max layouts that we routinely see on the PGA Tour schedule. While it may lack length, Harbour Town is by no means a pushover. Very tight, tree-lined fairways often take drivers out of the players' hands, forcing them to play strategically off the tee. In true Dye fashion, this is a second-shot golf course and players will be taking aim at minuscule greens that routinely grade out as some of the toughest to hit on the PGA Tour schedule. These factors make me give almost no weight to the bombers this week and I'll instead be focusing on players that are precise off the tee and accurate on approach.

Other than Pebble Beach, this course has the smallest greens on the PGA Tour schedule, so while it's an area that often goes overlooked, I'll also be giving weight to around the green ability this week. Harbour Town is slightly similar to Augusta National in that we often see the same players perform well here every year, while first-timers can struggle, so I'm giving an even bigger bump than normal to players with strong course history.

Fantasy Golf Lineup Picks for FanDuel (PGA DFS)

We have tons of great weekly PGA articles, DFS analysis, tools and DFS advice. Be sure to read our other fantastic articles regarding this week's event including DFS lineup picks for DraftKings/FanDuel, betting advice and DFS prop picks.

High-Priced FanDuel DFS Plays

Collin Morikawa ($11,800)

Collin Morikawa's T7 in last year's RBC Heritage is indicative of how well this layout fits his game, even though the final result doesn't really do justice to how well he truly played in this event last year. He ranked second in both SG: T2G & Approach for the week, only to be undone by an unruly putter in the final round (he lost 2.5 strokes putting for the week). After a couple of sluggish starts over the past month, Morikawa comes into this year's Heritage with some positive momentum on the heels of his best career Masters finish that included a Sunday 67. This Dye layout is tailor-made for his sharp iron play and our only real concern is his tough-to-trust putting.

Shane Lowry ($11,400)

The Irishman has put together an unbelievably strong year to this point. An impressive T3 in last week's Masters was just the latest in a string of terrific outings that includes a runner-up at the Honda and top-13 finishes at The Players & Valspar Championships. Lowry's run has been made possible by his phenomenal ball-striking. He's gained strokes T2G, OTT, & on Approach in all four of his U.S. starts this year and grades out first in this week's field in SG: Ball Striking, as well as third in SG: Approach over his last 12 rounds. Lowry has also displayed an affinity for Harbour Town in the past, as he's recorded a T9 and a T3 over his last three trips to Hilton Head.

Matt Fitzpatrick ($10,800)

The light-hitting Englishman put forth a feisty effort last week, posting a solid T14 on a lengthy Augusta National layout. This week's 7,100-yard Harbour Town layout is a much better fit for his game and I look for Fitzpatrick to be in serious contention throughout the weekend. He's repeatedly stated that this is his favorite course on the PGA Tour schedule and that sentiment is reflected in his Heritage results that include a T4 last year with a pair of additional top-15s since 2018. His four top-10s this year illustrate that Fitzy is simply doing everything well at the moment and he grades out fourth in this week's field in SG: Total over his last 24 rounds. A very nice blend of course fit and current form.

Mid-Priced FanDuel DFS Plays

Tommy Fleetwood ($10,300)

After suffering through declining form over the past year or so, Tommy Fleetwood's game appears to be once again headed in the right direction. The Englishman has quietly put together a solid stretch in the U.S. and has run off four consecutive top-25 finishes, including a T14 in last week's Masters. Fleetwood's improved results can likely be attributed to his solidified iron play. After slumping badly with the irons throughout 2021, he's now gained strokes on Approach in each of his last three starts. He missed the RBC Heritage cut last year while in the midst of his aforementioned struggles, but a T25 in 2019 indicates that this Harbour Town layout makes sense for his game.

Kevin Kisner ($9,800)

The Kiz has been lit as of late with last month's impressive T4 at The Players (TPC Sawgrass designed by Pete Dye) promptly topped by a run to the finals of the Dell Match Play (Austin Country Club designed by Pete Dye) a couple of weeks later. I'm willing to take the South Carolina native's performance in last week's Masters with a grain of salt, as Kiz himself has been open about his prospects on the behemoth Augusta National layout. However, this 7,100-yard layout is the type of track that short-hitters such as himself circle on the calendar, and I look for him to continue his strong run of recent form at Harbour Town, which is - you guessed it - a Pete Dye design.

Matt Kuchar ($9,600)

A course history beast with his game finally trending in the right direction, Matt Kuchar deserves serious consideration as a mid-range option on this slate. It felt weird watching last week's Masters without Kuch in the field, but the veteran appears intent on returning to Augusta National next year if his last two starts are any indicator. After a quiet T16 at the Valspar, he nearly played his way into the Masters with a runner-up finish at the Valero Texas Open. Kuchar now brings that trending form to a Harbour Town layout on which he's made the cut a hard-to-fathom 17 years in a row! The Georgia Tech alum has a win and five additional top-10 finishes over his 18 career starts in the RBC Heritage. This is one of a handful of tournaments a year where I'll noticeably bump up my attention to around the green play and Kuchar happens to lead this week's field in that particular strokes gained category over the last 24 rounds.

Low-Priced FanDuel DFS Players

Adam Hadwin ($9,500)

The Canadian's course history at Harbour Town isn't really going to pop (just one top-25 in six career appearances), but his recent form is impossible to ignore. Hadwin heads to Hilton Head in the midst of an absolute heater, as he's recorded top-10 results in each of his last three starts (Players, Valspar, Valero). He's gained an average of 3.93 strokes on Approach over those three outings and has also managed to gain strokes both OTT and ATG in each of his last two. Hadwin grades out third in this week's field in SG: Total over his last 12 rounds, which makes this palatable $9.5k price tag a no-brainer.

Kevin Streelman ($9,400)

Another vanilla veteran that fits the Heritage mold. Kevin Streelman's jack-of-all-trades style isn't very exciting but has proven to be extremely effective both in recent starts and in the RBC Heritage specifically. The 43-year-old comes into the week with top-25 results in four of his last five starts. He's gained an average of 3.5 strokes T2G over his last five tournaments. In addition to that recent display of form, Streels has experienced success at Harbour Town, with three top-10s over 11 career Heritage appearances.

Matthew NeSmith ($8,200)

You might remember Matthew NeSmith from his impressive run at the Valspar Championship a few weeks ago, a tournament in which he fired a mind-blowing 61 in the second round en route to a T3 result. The Valspar marked the second time in two starts that NeSmith gained over five strokes on Approach (+5.2 Honda Classic). He's a volatile player - as reflected by his recent missed cut at Valero - but there are some noteworthy connections to Harbour Town. The South Carolina native and former USC Gamecock has stated that it's his favorite golf course, he won the Junior Heritage on it in 2011 and even proposed to his wife on the 18th green in 2018. In addition to those personal ties to Harbour Town, NeSmith has also made the cut in both of his Heritage starts as a pro.
