Sonny Gray Traded To The Twins
3 years agoThe Minnesota Twins have acquired starting pitcher Sonny Gray in a trade with the Cincinnati Reds. Gray and minor league pitcher Francis Peguero are heading to Minnesota in exchange for pitcher Chase Petty, who was a first round pick of the Twins in 2021. Gray will bring a much-needed veteran presence to a young Twins rotation. Last year, the 32-year-old started 26 games for the Reds and went 7-9 with a 4.19 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP. His advance stats suggest he had some bad luck last year as he had an 84th percentile xERA (3.25). He was exceptional at limiting hard contact in 2021 with a 32.1% hard-hit rate (91st percentile) and a 4.7% barrel rate (92nd percentile). He'll be near the top of the Twins rotation and he may even have a shot at being the team's Opening Day starter.
