The Kansas City Chiefs will have the last pick in the first round of the NFL Draft for the second consecutive year. However, that’s the price you pay for being back-to-back Super Bowl champions.
While the Chiefs are the clear-cut top team in the NFL, they still have needs heading into the NFL Draft. Kansas City could go in several directions with its first-round pick.
Let’s look at a pair of potential draft targets that the Chiefs could select with the 32nd overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Troy Franklin (WR – Oregon)
Kansas City never completely replaced Tyreek Hill after trading the superstar to the Miami Dolphins during the 2022 offseason. However, that hasn’t stopped them from winning back-to-back Super Bowls. Last year, Rashee Rice looked like a star in the making in the second half of the season. Unfortunately, he is in the middle of an off-the-field disaster, putting his availability for the 2024 season in question.
While the Chiefs added Marquise Brown in free agency, the veteran only signed a one-year deal. He shouldn’t keep them from adding a wide receiver in the first round. Franklin has a similar game to Brown, as the Oregon star is an outstanding deep threat. Kansas City could use Franklin as a part-time player as a rookie before making him a featured part of the offense in 2025 when Brown leaves in free agency.

Jordan Morgan (OT – Arizona)
After losing both starting offensive tackles in free agency, the Chiefs signed Jawaan Taylor and Donovan Smith as replacements last year. While Taylor is still around, Smith is a free agent. Unfortunately, both starters struggled in 2023. Kansas City spent a third-round pick in last year’s draft on Wanya Morris. However, the second-year player shouldn’t earn the starting left tackle spot unchallenged.
Morgan is an early second-round pick in most mock drafts. Yet, he could sneak into late Day 1 if there is a heavy run on offensive tackles. He could push Morris for the starting left tackle spot as a rookie. More importantly, Morgan can kick inside to guard. The Chiefs have two interior starting offensive linemen set to hit the open market next offseason, including guard Trey Smith. After spending a year as the sixth offensive lineman, Morgan could be Smith’s long-term replacement at guard.
