2024 MLB Power Rankings: Week 13

Grayson Rodriguez fantasy baseball prospects rookies draft sleepers starting pitchers

Another week has passed, and some significant shifts have occurred in the MLB landscape. What's pretty wild right now is that there are 11 teams in MLB that have between 34 and 36 wins! That's a third of the teams in baseball hovering right below .500, which is why the fourth tier of the rankings is so messy right now.

Remember, when I do my rankings, I factor in past performance, the current level of performance, overall talent, injuries, and schedules -- as many factors as possible.

Keep reading to find out where your favorite team ranks and which teams moved up and down the rankings the most this week. Let's get into it already. Here are my Week 13 MLB Power Rankings!

Be sure to check all of our fantasy baseball draft tools and resources:

The Bottom Dwellers

30. Chicago White Sox (20-56)

Last Week's Ranking (30)

29. Miami Marlins (25-49)

Last Week's Ranking (29)

28. Colorado Rockies (26-49)

Last Week's Ranking (28)

I'm running out of things to say about this group each week, so I am lumping them together today. The White Sox are a distant 30th, while only a half-game separates the Marlins and Rockies. Miami has won two in a row, but both teams are nearly identical in run differential and are some of the most boring teams to follow.

We can't even get any prospect hype going right now as Miami refuses to promote Max Meyer, and the Rockies' top prospect, Adael Amador, has yet to do much of anything since arriving in Colorado.

27. Oakland Athletics (28-49)

Last Week's Ranking (27)

Oakland is reeling once again and just a full game ahead of Colorado in the overall standings after dropping eight of their last ten. If you need something to cheer for, Oakland fans, it should be the re-emergence of young second baseman Zack Gelof.

26. Los Angeles Angels (29-45)

Last Week's Ranking (26)

The Angels have to play the Dodgers this weekend in the battle of Los Angeles (shout out to other Rage Against The Machine fans here). They are in danger of dropping even further down the standings and have little hope of finishing outside the basement this season with the way things are playing out.

At Least We're Not Those Guys

25. Washington Nationals (36-38)

Last Week's Ranking (24)

This is the biggest tier right now as we have a whole bunch of teams that aren't good but are hanging around within a few games of .500. The Nats have actually won seven of their last ten games, but I don't have much confidence that they can turn the corner. They do get Colorado this weekend, so they may have a winning record by next Monday.

Jesse Winker is having a nice bounce-back season - you have to wonder if he will be on the trade market next month.

24. Toronto Blue Jays (35-39)

Last Week's Ranking (24)

Just when Toronto fans had a glimmer of hope, the Jays dropped three straight games and looked quite mediocre in the process. The youth movement has already begun to an extent here, with Orelvis Martinez now up with the team and other young hitters like Spencer Horwitz and Addison Barger getting regular action. It might be time to play for next year, as I don't think this team can come close to contending as currently constructed.

23. San Francisco Giants (36-40)

Last Week's Ranking (17)

The Giants fooled us last week into thinking they were turning a corner, so they are some of the biggest drops this week. They have lost three in a row and are now an abysmal 4-16 against teams that are .500 or better - yikes.

22. New York Mets (35-38)

Last Week's Ranking (25)

The Mets are moving up this week as they have won eight of their last ten and have seen their offense shift into high gear of late (Francisco Lindor is RED-HOT). They have just enough pitching to win some of these high-scoring games, and Mets fans have to be at least encouraged by the continued development of Tylor Megill.

21. Pittsburgh Pirates (36-38)

Last Week's Ranking (22)

I have a hard time moving my Pirates up more than one spot this week. Yes, they seem to be trending up and winning some close games lately, but they are still getting it done mainly with pitching and aren't scoring many runs. The big three of Jared Jones-Mitch Keller-Paul Skenes will give them a chance to win on a nightly basis, but they still need to get more out of their bats.

20. Detroit Tigers (34-40)

Last Week's Ranking (13)

The Tigers are in a free-fall right now, having dropped four straight. They get a well-timed matchup with the 30th-ranked Chi-Sox this weekend and Jack Flaherty is on the mound tonight as a potential stopper.

This team's trajectory is pretty much what we have been saying all season, though. Their pitching carried them early, but their lack of offense will be their undoing and is the main reason they can't get over the hump.

19. Texas Rangers (34-40)

Last Week's Ranking (14)

Oh, how the mighty have fallen! We go with back-to-back Texas teams here and both are playing well below expectations. The Mariners are surging in the meantime and widening the gap between themselves and the rest of the division. The only positive thing I can think of here is that Max Scherzer is set to return to the rotation this coming week.

18. Houston Astros (35-40)

Last Week's Ranking (21)

Houston has won two in a row, and while they are in a bad spot for pitching right now, with Justin Verlander being the latest starter to get hurt, their offense is good enough to keep them in games. I guess they have to decide in the next month if they want to be buyers or sellers at the deadline, so this next stretch of games will be crucial to determining what they want to do.

17. Tampa Bay Rays (36-39)

Last Week's Ranking (19)

Tampa moves up this week mainly because their two-game winning streak pushes them ahead of another 7-8 teams in the standings. However, we can't ignore their -70 run differential, which is nearly as bad as the 29-win Angels. They might have some pitching help arriving soon with Jeffrey Springs and Shane Baz, but this team is middling at best.

16. St. Louis Cardinals (37-37)

Last Week's Ranking (18)

The Cards keep hanging around .500, despite their terrible start this spring. Lately, they have had some pretty solid starting pitching - with Kyle Gibson emerging as a legit #2 option after Sonny Gray.

15. Chicago Cubs (36-39)

Last Week's Ranking (15)

The Cubs have won two in a row, but I still have them in this "bad team tier" for now, as I haven't seen enough from them to think they deserve to be ahead of Cincinnati just yet. The offense is so streaky and gets shut down far too often and I have said before, the drop from Shota Imanaga to their #2 in the rotation (for now, Justin Steele) is pretty steep. The rest of their rotation (Ben Brown, Javier Assad, Jameson Taillon) has seen some negative regression as well.

So...Are They Good?

14. Cincinnati Reds (35-39)

Last Week's Ranking (16)

While the Reds' record doesn't reflect it just yet, I think they are one of the teams from the 34-36 win group that could finish above .500 and in playoff contention. The Reds, Astros, Padres, and Diamondbacks are the only teams below .500 with positive run differentials. Hunter Greene and Nick Lodolo are a solid 1-2 combo, and look for Cincy to get Noelvi Marte back in the lineup as soon as next week.

13. Arizona Diamondbacks (37-38)

Last Week's Ranking (20)

The Snakes made a big jump back up the standings, but let's remember that the 13th-ranked team and the 24th-ranked team this week are separated by just two games, so things are still very fluid with the middle of the pack. I do think Arizona's offense is a good bit better than most of those other teams in the middle of the pack and that gives them a bit of separation.

12. San Diego Padres (39-40)

Last Week's Ranking (12)

The Padres got some good news recently that Yu Darvish is set to return to the rotation, which is a big deal because the starting pitching is what the Padres need in order to get over the hump. Dylan Cease has regressed in a major way, and Michael King has been very Jekyll and Hyde this season. Hopefully, Darvish can help settle this rotation because the offense has been solid all year.

11. Boston Red Sox (40-35)

Last Week's Ranking (11)

Boston has reeled off five straight wins and has us wondering, "Are they actually contenders?" We have seen them do this before, so I am going to hang back a bit until we see more than just one hot stretch. The reality is that they are probably a lot closer to the middle of the pack than they are to the top-tier teams. But when they are healthy, they have been winning games, so we will just have to wait and see.

Contenders, Maybe?

10. Minnesota Twins (41-34)

Last Week's Ranking (10)

The Twins were streaking in a big way before dropping their last two games to the Rays. They are still 7-3 over their last ten games, and things are clicking on offense with Royce Lewis and Carlos Correa leading the way. A date with Oakland this weekend is certainly a good matchup for them to get back on a winning streak.

9. Atlanta Braves (41-31)

Last Week's Ranking (8)

The Braves have won three in a row and despite their injuries, they are not going away anytime soon. Jarred Kelenic has been solid in the leadoff spot so far, replacing Michael Harris II and Ronald Acuna Jr., and there are enough big bats in this lineup to keep pumping out the runs. The real question marks now are at the back end of the rotation, where rookies Spencer Schwellenbach and Hurston Waldrep have shown they are not ready.

8. Kansas City Royals (42-34

Last Week's Ranking (6)

The Royals have dipped a bit, going 3-7 in their last ten games. The Dodgers humbled them last week, and we've seen some cracks in their armor both in the back half of the rotation and in the bottom half of their lineup. This is still a darn good team and a playoff contender, but they have cooled off for sure.

7. Milwaukee Brewers (44-31)

Last Week's Ranking (7)

I'm not sure how they do it, but the Brewers keep winning. If I showed you their roster on paper and you had not seen the standings yet this season, I am 100% positive you would not predict that they are 12 games over .500 and leading their division. It's a testament to their organization and their manager in terms of getting the most out of their players.

I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop, but right now, no other team in the NL Central has been up to the task of challenging the Brew Crew.

6. Seattle Mariners (44-33)

Last Week's Ranking (8)

If pitching wins championships, then Seattle might still be my favorite dark horse, as they have a rock-solid rotation 1-4 (Bryan Woo has been a bit shaky as their fifth starter). The Mariners would be wise to make a move for another bat if they want to be serious contenders this season, but their roster is set up to be competitive next year and beyond as well.

5. Cleveland Guardians (46-26)

Last Week's Ranking (5)

I have Cleveland officially out of the top four and the top tier. This is not a knock on the Guardians at all. They continue to play well and get the most out of their roster on a nightly basis. Gavin Williams is set to return soon, which will certainly help their rotation, but ultimately I don't think they have the offensive firepower or pitching depth to hang with Baltimore or New York.

Contenders, For Sure

4. Los Angeles Dodgers (47-30)

Last Week's Ranking (4)

The Dodgers are darn good, and they have demonstrated their dominance when it matters most, as they are 12-4 against teams over .500 this season. Losing Mookie Betts for an extended stretch hurts, and Yoshinobu Yamamoto for their rotation, too, but there is so much talent and depth here that they should be able to keep plugging along without missing a beat.

3. Philadelphia Phillies (49-25)

Last Week's Ranking (2)

The Phillies dropped one spot this week, as they lost their series against Baltimore last weekend. They still look very much like they are on a collision course with the Dodgers for the NL pennant and bounced back nicely with a series win over the Padres.

2. Baltimore Orioles (49-25)

Last Week's Ranking (3)

Baltimore is surging! This team took two of three from the Phillies and then proceeded to do the same thing to the Yankees in the very next series. I have been on the Orioles all year, and it looks like they are finally pulling it all together. It's scary how good this team could be, especially if they cash in some of their minor-league prospects for upgrades in the rotation and outfield. The path to the World Series definitely runs through the AL East this season!

1. New York Yankees (51-26)

Last Week's Ranking (1)

Despite their loss to the Orioles this week, I have to keep the Yankees on top, as they are still 1.5 games up on Baltimore and lead baseball with 51 wins. Gerrit Cole is back and looked solid in his return. New York and Baltimore are going to be battling over the top spot in the AL East and are likely going to be doing the same thing here for the top spot each week for a while.

I'll see you next week for my newest batch of rankings -- feel free to let me know what I got right and wrong!
