2024 MLB Power Rankings: Week 10

MLB POWER RANKINGS WEEK 10

We head into the weekend of Week 10 with several teams surging and others starting to fade. Championships aren't won in June, but they certainly can be lost. Many of the mediocre teams in the middle of our rankings have to start making a move, or risk being buried too deep in the standings in order to make a playoff push in August and September.

Remember, I will be factoring in past performance, the current level of performance, overall talent, and preseason expectations into the rankings -- though it's time to start letting go of expectations and focusing on what each team is doing on the field so far.

Keep reading to find out where your favorite team ranks and which teams moved up and down the rankings the most this week. Without further ado, here are your Week 10 MLB Power Rankings!

Be sure to check all of our fantasy baseball draft tools and resources:

The Bottom Dwellers

30. Chicago White Sox (15-42)

Last Week's Ranking (30)

Chicago has dropped eight in a row and nine of its last 10. The Sox are now five games behind the rest of the bottom dwellers -- do we have to make them their own tier soon?

29. Miami Marlins (20-37)

Last Week's Ranking (29)

The Marlins and Rockies are both at least playing .500 baseball over their last 10 games and are deadlocked at a -75 run differential each. If you wanted to find one bright spot for Miami of late, it's been the pitching of its young left-handers, Ryan Weathers and Braxton Garrett, who have stabilized a rotation that already lost Eury Perez and Edward Cabrera to injury.

28. Colorado Rockies (20-35)

Last Week's Ranking (28)

The Rockies are here because they have two fewer losses than Miami and managed to take a series from Cleveland this week. The improvement has come from their starting pitching as Ty Blach, Austin Gomber, and Cal Quantrill have been much better of late.

27. Oakland Athletics (23-35)

Last Week's Ranking (27)

Oakland has its good days, but overall this is still a very bad club -- as verified by its -62 run differential (fourth worst in MLB). Mason Miller is awesome to watch in closeout games, but there's not been much else that exciting about this club recently.

26. Los Angeles Angels (21-35)

Last Week's Ranking (26)

The Angels are newcomers to the bottom dwellers. They are trending down and I would expect them to continue to struggle the rest of the season with their roster. It will be interesting to see if they attempt to shed some payroll this summer by trading some guys like Tyler Anderson, Patrick Sandoval, Taylor Ward, or others.

25. New York Mets (23-33)

Last Week's Ranking (22)

The Mets are...well, a hot mess. We had the Jorge Lopez fiasco this week and now they just demoted their best young pitcher, Christian Scott, who was pitching well. It's a sign that they are ready to tank as they've dropped eight of their last 10 and are now 10 games under .500.

At Least We're Not Those Guys

24. Toronto Blue Jays (26-29)

Last Week's Ranking (24)

Toronto faces my Pirates this weekend with the series winner having a chance at pushing for the .500 mark by next week. It should be a good series, but Toronto gets lucky and misses both Jared Jones and Paul Skenes.

23. Washington Nationals (26-29)

Last Week's Ranking (23)

The Nats are actually somewhat hot right now as they took a series from Atlanta and have won six of their last 10 games. MacKenzie Gore has looked like he's finally rounding into form as a true MLB ace and Lane Thomas has given the offense a major spark now that he's back in the lineup.

22. Pittsburgh Pirates (26-30)

Last Week's Ranking (19)

Maybe I am a homer, but the Pirates suck me back in when they win a few games. They are a mirror image of the Blue Jays in that they have solid starting pitching and a lackluster offense. The one difference is that Toronto had bigger expectations placed on it coming into the season and a much bigger payroll.

21. Cincinnati Reds (24-32)

Last Week's Ranking (20)

It would be easy to dismiss the Reds entirely, but something tells me they are going to make a run at some point. Nick Lodolo is back to form a solid 1-2 combo with Hunter Greene; it's just a matter of getting those Reds bats going.

20. St. Louis Cardinals (27-27)

Last Week's Ranking (25)

The Cardinals jump five spots this week and probably have a case to be a few spots higher than I am willing to move them. They've won eight of their last 10, mainly behind an improved offense that has finally woken up after struggling for the first month and half of the season.

If they had better starting pitching, I'd be more optimistic, but they could drop right back down the rankings if this offense cools off again.

19. Arizona Diamondbacks (25-31)

Last Week's Ranking (16)

I rarely know what to do with Arizona, but I have no choice but to keep dropping it in the ranks. It is now six games under .500 with a -5 run differential. And to add insult to injury, its ace, Zac Gallen, left last night's game in the first inning with an injury. This team should be better (but it is not right now).

18. Houston Astros (25-32)

Last Week's Ranking (18)

After vaulting up the rankings (and standings) with a two-week heater, the Astros have cooled off, dropping six of their last 10 games. They are still in striking distance for playoff contention, but they can't afford to play .500 baseball for long stretches.

So...Are They Good?

17. San Francisco Giants (29-28)

Last Week's Ranking (21)

The Giants moved up a tier! I had no choice as they've crossed the .500 threshold with a solid 7-3 run over their last 10 games. The youth movement is working on offense and they are getting just enough pitching to make it work (especially from their ace Logan Webb, who has been outstanding).

16. Tampa Bay Rays (28-29)

Last Week's Ranking (17)

Tampa has won two in a row, but still only three of its last seven games. It really has no business being close to .500 with a whopping -48 run differential, but it is winning just enough to stay in the middle tier for now.

15. Detroit Tigers (28-28)

Last Week's Ranking (15)

The Tigers are mired in mediocrity, but Tarik Skubal and Jack Flaherty continue to paint masterpieces each time through the rotation. Flaherty might be the best pitcher in baseball right now if it weren't for his own teammate having such a fantastic year.

14. Texas Rangers (27-29)

Last Week's Ranking (13)

The Rangers drop another spot as they are still trying to find their footing and work through injuries. Nathan Eovaldi returned to the rotation this week, which is a good sign as they badly need some help in the pitching department.

13. Boston Red Sox (28-29)

Last Week's Ranking (12)

The Sox are starting to show some holes as their offense has evaporated and they continue to strike out more. The pitching continues to be good, but won't be good enough to propel them to anything more than a .500 season without more offense.

12. San Diego Padres (30-29)

Last Week's Ranking (14)

Every time you count the Padres out, they go win a series you didn't think they would. This team is constantly up and down as is their players' performance. They definitely have the talent to make some noise if they can put it together and go on a run.

11. Chicago Cubs (28-29)

Last Week's Ranking (9)

The Cubs are slumping badly on offense and dropped two spots this week out of the contenders tier. They now have a -10 run differential and the starting pitching won't hold together forever -- at some point, they have to start hitting again if they want to be taken seriously.

Contenders, Maybe?

10. Seattle Mariners (31-27)

Last Week's Ranking (10)

"What if the Mariners had a good offense" is something I feel like we will be saying all the way to the end of the season. The good news is the rest of their division is bad or currently struggling.

9. Minnesota Twins (31-25)

Last Week's Ranking (11)

The Twinkies are a sleeping giant with their elite rotation and a solid collection of hitters. They need Royce Lewis's bat back and to be more consistent at the plate.

8. Milwaukee Brewers (33-23)

Last Week's Ranking (8)

The Brewers have won consistently enough to prove they are a good team. They even could get Rhys Hoskins back somewhat soon, which would bolster the offense even more. I question their starting pitching depth, but over half the teams in the league have questions there, too. They are sitting 10 games above .500 with the NL Central under firm wraps with the Cubs, Cardinals, and Reds all struggling.

7. Atlanta Braves (31-23)

Last Week's Ranking (6)

It was not a great week for Atlanta to say the least. They lost their superstar centerfielder and leadoff man, Ronald Acuna Jr. to a season-ending injury and now have lost their best hitter and pitcher in the same season. This team has enough depth to continue to compete for a playoff spot, but they'll need to add something around the deadline to be serious contenders in the playoffs. Oh, how the mighty have fallen...

Contenders, For Sure

6. Kansas City Royals (35-23)

Last Week's Ranking (7)

You have to love what the Royals are doing this year. Their +80 run differential is better than Cleveland and Baltimore! This team continues to prove weekly that it's a serious contender and personally, I am here for it.

5. Baltimore Orioles (35-19)

Last Week's Ranking (5)

The Orioles had a great week and continue to make a push toward the Yankees for first place in the AL East. Dean Kremer and John Means have hit the shelf, but Cole Irvin and Albert Suarez have filled in admirably. I still think we see them move some young hitting talent for another solid starter before the deadline.

4. Cleveland Guardians (37-19)

Last Week's Ranking (4)

Cleveland dropped two of three to the Rockies but has still won eight of its last 10 games. Jose Ramirez has tossed his cap into the AL MVP race with a May for the ages.

3. Los Angeles Dodgers (36-22)

Last Week's Ranking (3)

The Dodgers continue to do Dodger things and win -- which is what we expect them to do. They're capable of winning games and cruising to another division title without even playing their best baseball. Boring!

2. New York Yankees (39-19)

Last Week's Ranking (2)

The Yankees refuse to quit! They got good news that Gerrit Cole could return soon, but the bad news is that Clarke Schmidt is going to miss 4-6 weeks with an injury. They are going to need offense to pick it up again as they have cooled off recently, but the Yanks just keep figuring out ways to win ballgames.

1. Philadelphia Phillies (39-18)

Last Week's Ranking (1)

The Yankees are breathing down their necks, but the top spot still belongs to the fightin' Phils! With the injury to Ronald Acuna Jr., the Phillies have to be the favorite to win the NL East and they have more pitching than any other NL team right now as well.

I'll see you next week for my newest batch of rankings -- feel free to let me know what I got right and wrong!
