Preview
Germany will once again be vying for the top of the group with one other country with this year’s group rival being Spain. Germany will be fully expected to make it past the Group Stage and possibly even the Round of 16. After winning the World Cup in 2014, Germany has yet to find consistent success with disappointments in the 2018 World Cup, the 2018-2019 UEFA Nations League, and most recently the Euro 202.
There have been multiple questions regarding their attack and whether players like Timo Werner could handle the pressure of the International Stage to lead Germany back into glory. Perhaps fortunately for Germany and unfortunately for Werner, he will not be attending after getting injured prior to roster submission. However, there have been multiple new additions to the team coming into the first major tournament for Hansi Flick as the new bench boss and some of the additions have come as a surprise.
Prediction: Lose in Quarter-Finals
Who is Starting for (Germany's) Squad in the 2022 World Cup

Alternate Options By Position:
GK: Trapp, ter Stegen
DF: Gunter, Schlotterbeck, Kehrer, Bella-Kotchap, Ginter
MF: Gundogan, Gotze, Hofmann, Brandt, Musiala
FW: Fullkrug, Adeyemi, Moukoko
Who Are Germany's Best Players To Watch?
Defense: Antonio Rudiger - CB (Real Madrid)
All eyes will be on Rudiger at the World Cup after he made a massive move in the summer to Spanish giants Real Madrid from Chelsea. Rudiger is a part of one of the better defenses in the La Liga, despite them only keeping a clean sheet twice so far this season in domestic play. However, they did manage to keep two clean sheets in UEFA Champions League play during the Group Stage fixtures.
Rudiger’s last appearance was in the summer during UEFA Nations League A play, where Germany once again struggled offensively, but was stellar defensively when Rudiger played, conceding five goals in four matches. Rudiger will be the cornerstone of the German defense and he is a threat on set-pieces, something Germany lacks without him.
Midfield: Kai Havertz - CAM/ST (Chelsea)
After making his big move in 2020/2021 from Bayern Leverkusen of the Bundesliga to Chelsea of the English Premier League, Havertz has fizzled out, yet to match the season records he set in the Bundesliga – 17 goals and six assists –.
This season through all competitions, Havertz has just four goals through 19 appearances. He has fared much better though in International play, scoring 10 goals and assisting 10 goals through 30 appearances since making his debut for Germany back in 2018. The German giants will desperately need the creativity and knack for scoring that he once showed during his days with Leverkusen.
Forward: Serge Gnabry - LW/RW/ST (Bayern Munich)
Once deemed a top-end prospect for Arsenal of the English Premier League, Gnabry quickly found himself out of favor and he made his return back to the Bundesliga where he has thrived. Since 2016, Gnabry has scored 95 goals and assisted 59 goals through 248 matches in all competitions, with his most successful campaign coming last year. However, his International success is a different story.
The forward has struggled for success after starting his campaign so well, scoring 11 goals and assisting four goals in 15 appearances from 2018-2020. However, since then he has only mustered six goals and four assists through 19 appearances, notably going goalless during the UEFA Nations League games this past summer. If Germany is to restore their fame and rise to glory once again, Gnabry will need to step up his form immensely as he is expected to lead the front line this winter.
