2016 NFL Draft Analysis for Fantasy Football - Running Back Tyler Ervin

Position, Team, NFL Draft Spot: RB, Houston Texans, 4.21

Dynasty Positional Rank: 71

Redraft Target Round: Late round selection

Analysis: Ervin was the first running back taken in the fourth round after an extremely impressive senior season at San Jose State University. In 13 games his senior season, Ervin recorded 1,601 rushing yards, 334 receiving yards, 702 return yards, and 16 total touchdowns. This production was too much to for the Texans to pass up even though they recently signed Lamar Miller.

Ervin’s fantasy upside is extremely limited this season. He’ll be stuck behind Lamar Miller, who is going to be the workhorse running back for Houston. Ervin also has a small frame, which he will need to bulk up if he wants a role his rookie season. Ervin could be featured in a multitude of ways this season, but his touches will likely be limited and Ervin isn’t a great fantasy option this season.

The dynasty outlook of Ervin is a bit more complex. He has elite upside because of his explosiveness and versatility. He needs to bulk up a bit to handle more touches, but he’s still stuck behind Lamar Miller for the foreseeable future. Ervin could eventually move into the slot and take on a role similar to Dexter McCluster. That isn’t necessarily a great thing, and Ervin isn’t a great dynasty prospect in this draft.
