Week 3 Quick Hit Wide Receiver (WR) Rankings Analysis
By Zach Wilkens (@LopsidedTrades)
I was pretty surprised that I was so high on T.Y. Hilton (WR7 vs WR16 consensus rank) this week. I know he may not be 100% but man, is it a good matchup. The Browns just got totally burned by an undersized speedster in Travis Benjamin and that is exactly what Hilton is, except 10 times better. Andrew Luck and the Colts are going to look to quiet the doubters, and I bet Hilton is a huge part of that.
Another WR I’m not worried about? Mike Evans who I have as WR11. Well...okay there is a little concern and doubt creeping in, but right now I am more convinced he wasn’t close to 100% last week and better days are ahead. Specifically, it’s been reported he won’t have any sort of snap count this week. I remain totally convinced that Evans is just too talented to not have several big games ahead. Put him in your lineups (or trade him to me if you are a non-believer).
I’m predicting a bounce-back game for Kendall Wright. This is especially true if Colts top corner Vontae Davis remains out with a concussion. Even if Davis does return, Wright spends a majority of his snaps in the slot which means he will probably avoid Davis most of the day. That makes him a good start, especially for PPR leagues.
On the negative side, I am down on Jordan Matthews this week at WR25. I am one of Matthews’ biggest fans but he has a tough matchup versus Darrelle Revis and company. Given how lost the Eagles offense looks so far I have a very hard time trusting Matthews. So far he has racked up points in garbage time both weeks to save his fantasy day, but this should be his toughest matchup yet, which may prevent that from happening.
I’m also down on Davante Adams. He just doesn’t seem to have a clear role in this offense right now. Randall Cobb is the go-to possession receiver and James Jones is clearly the preferred target in the end zone. Richard Rodgers might even be ahead of Adams near the goal line. I don’t have a lot of confidence in him right now and I have him as a low-end flex play, nothing more.
With me being pretty high on Nick Foles this week it stands to reason that I like Kenny Britt more than most as well. He seems to be forgotten by experts with a consensus rank of WR57. I only have him at WR41 so it’s not like I am crazy high on him, but I’m betting a Rams WR scores this week and Kenny Britt leads the Rams WRs in snaps and receiving yards. He’s also the only WR on the team to have a receiving TD, so Britt definitely has the best chance to score.
