Week 2 Quick Hit Tight End (TE) Rankings Analysis
By Edward Gorelik (@EdwardGorelik)
I believe in the Tyler Eifert hype. He's always been a significant talent and he's finally getting to show it on the field with no health issues holding him back.
The Chargers don't have any player who's as big and fast as Eifert to really challenge him. Not to mention, he was Andy Dalton's most targeted player on Sunday, with 10 targets (nine of which he converted to catches).
There's one more kooky, offbeat point to make here-- Andy Dalton actually plays really well against opponents that don't see him often. No, I'm serious.
Take a look at this tweet posted early last week, when Dalton faces an uncommon opponent (as in a non-divisional opponent who has also yet to play him that season or the previous year). His play is significantly improved. The Chargers certainly haven't played against Dalton, and neither did the Raiders. Seems like another chance for Eifert to show us what he can do.
I was very high on Heath Miller last week, and nothing changes for me this week. Against Kyle Rudolph, the 49ers gave up seven targets, five receptions, and 53 yards-- and this was against a QB who was struggling all night long.
Ben Roethlisberger isn't the type to struggle, and as we saw last week, a Roethlisberger without Bryant and Bell heads back into old comfort zones, throwing the ball back to his reliable tight end Heath Miller.
In the same vein, Jason Witten gets a huge boost this week. Although the Eagles might have the personnel to work against Witten, we saw Tony Romo head right back to his old safety blanket after Dez Bryant left with an injury. That's exactly what we should be expecting again this week as Witten becomes a hog for targets.
