Week 1 Quick Hit Quarterback (QB) Rankings Analysis
By Edward Gorelik (@EdwardGorelik)
I'm finding myself higher than the Expert Consensus on both Eli Manning and Andy Dalton, and it's mostly for the same reasons.
Both players play with a strong offensive cast, with pass catchers of all kinds from all the positions, and are both going up against lowly defenses that have little to offer in the way of stopping either quarterback.
Despite being on the road, in Eli's case the Dallas home-field has only once since 2009 been able to keep him from putting up at least 22 points in fantasy. And many of those teams didn't have a player like Odell Beckham, or the varied and deep supporting cast around him.
Dalton on the other hand, is facing a Raiders defense that's still going to be working their way out of the 26th ranked pass defense (DVOA) from last year. Other than Khalil Mack, there's no one else on this defense that really strikes fear into the hearts of an offense, and Mack himself will have a tough task with Andrew Whitworth (one of the leagues best tackles) on him.
OC Hue Jackson might also have some real fiery game plan, cooked up for his return to play against the team that fired him from the head coaching position before he joined the Bengals.
Sam Bradford is a player that I'm on the fence about regarding this week, as he's going up against a changing Falcons defense with a changing Eagles offense.
I'm certain he will, if healthy, become a significant threat. But the amount of rust gained from time lost and not practicing is something that needs to be seen on the field, in regular season action, before I'm ready to fully buy in.
