Week 1 Quick Hit Wide Receiver (WR) Rankings Analysis
By Edward Gorelik (@EdwardGorelik)
Steve Smith's farewell tour begins in Denver on the road, a game where the Ravens are obvious underdogs. Smith is the only true returning starter from last year in this wideout corps, and that seems like a great way to get forced opportunities early in the year.
A game where the Ravens are likely to see themselves down, it wouldn't come as a surprise if they attack downfield early on aggressively to try and manage a lead in hostile territory. That's exactly how Steve Smith and Joe Flacco started off last season too.
Stevie Johnson is another veteran in prime position to over-perform. Lardarius Green's concussion scare has only worsened his chances for having a real effect in this game, and the loss of Gates targets is going to have to go somewhere.
After a full offseason of the Chargers doing nothing but hyping up Stevie's ability to move all around the offense, we're finally going to see it in action as many of those old-man-Gates targets head to old man Stevie.
Watkins is a lot lower on my rankings than most analysts, and the reasoning shouldn't surprise anyone. A new quarterback of questionable skill, a hard matchup against Vontae Davis, and an unknown quality of offense puts him in a horrible situation.
