BALLER MOVE: Target in Middle Rounds as TE1
CURRENT ADP: 54 STD, 49 PPR
ANALYSIS: Travis Kelce not only has the size and athleticism to play like Rob Gronkowski and Jimmy Graham, but his opportunity for Gronk-like targets is increasing, as well. In 2014, Kelce reeled in 67 catches for 862 yards and five touchdowns, despite a slow start. The 6’5”, 255 lb. weapon finished ninth in fantasy points (sixth in PPR) among tight ends last year.
Dwayne Bowe and Anthony Fasano are no longer members of the Chiefs, thus opening up more chances for Kelce, who should exceed 100 targets. Quarterback Alex Smith doesn’t throw the ball downfield often, which should bode well for Kelce, who will certainly benefit from check downs and screen plays. Furthermore, if Smith begins to throw deep more often to newly acquired Jeremy Maclin, holes might open up in the middle of the field for Kelce to use.
NFL.com writer Michael Fabiano ranked Kelce sixth overall with a 1.73 PPT (points per touch) average. As an every down player, Kelce should be able to raise his 67 catches from last year substantially. If he can maintain his excellent PPT, we’re looking at a top five fantasy tight end in the making.
With his yards-after-catch ability, strong hands and big body, Kelce has the potential to for 1,000 receiving yards and double digit touchdowns. If healthy, Kelce could finish the year as a top-five tight end.
