Week 4 NFL Matchups: Fantasy Football Analysis & Sit/Start Advice
Chicago Bears @ Detroit Lions, Sunday 9/29, 1PM
Match-up We Love: Reggie Bush, RB
Reggie Bush owners were plenty disappointed when he missed a favorable match-up against Washington last week, but now that it's been announced that he will play this week against the Bears, we think he's in line for a big day. Despite the Bears very good defense, Bush's edge speed has hurt them plenty of times in the recent past. In the passing game, the combination of Nate Burleson being out, and Charles Tillman being banged up, means Bush could see plenty of action in the slot as well. He could put up monster numbers, especially in a PPR league today, despite the Bears stout defense.
Analysis: Reggie Bush is a must start this week. Expect a great game.
Match-up We Hate: Bears DEF
The Bears defense is almost always an automatic start, but there are a lot of things working against them today that may make you want to look for a better match-up on waivers. The Lions can put up points with the best of them, and with Charles Tillman nursing a groin injury, the defense may have it's hands full making sure Calvin Johnson doesn't have a huge day, leaving the other Detroit weapons like Reggie Bush and Joique Bell open to big games. Even if the Bears win the game, (Jay Cutler is 7-1 against them as a Bear), expect a high scoring affair.
Analysis: If there isn't a better match-up on your waiver wire, and you have to use the Bears D, temper expectations. Look around for a better match-up first.
Key Injuries: Ziggy Ansah DE, DET (questionable), Louis Delmas S, DET (probable), Calvin Johnson WR, DET (probable), Henry Melton DT, CHI (out, IR), Charles Tillman CB, CHI (questionable)
Start 'Em: Matthew Stafford, Reggie Bush, Joique Bell, Calvin Johnson, Brandon Pettigrew, Lions DEF, Jay Cutler, Brandon Marshall, Matt Forte, Alshon Jeffrey, Martellus Bennett, Bears DEF
Seattle Seahawks @ Houston Texans, Sunday 9/29, 1PM
Match-up We Love: Texans DEF
The headlining defense in this game is going to be Seattle's, and with good reason, as they are the unquestionably the top defensive unit in the NFL after three weeks. Flying under the radar, however, is the Texans defense, who have been very good in their own right in the early going this year. In fact, the Texans defense is currently ranked second only to Seattle in total team defense after three weeks. While they don't get any where near the amount of turnovers as Seattle, the Texans defense is a solid choice this week, and could come close to Seattle's fantasy point output.
Analysis: Start the Texans defense with confidence in what should be a tough defensive struggle against Seattle.
Match-up We Hate: Matt Schaub, QB
With Aaron Rodgers and Cam Newton having byes this week, there will probably be an owner or two in your league looking for a QB on waivers. If this is you, and you see Matt Schaub sitting there, it may be very tempting to grab a guy who has weapons to throw to like Arian Foster and Andre Johnson. My advice is to leave Matt schaub alone this week. First, he's streaky to begin with. Second, he has to go against the leagues top defense with the best secondary in the NFL in the Seahawks. If that's not enough to make you steer clear of Schaub, look at the stinker he put up against the Ravens in week three, when his team failed to reach the end zone.
Analysis: Avoid Matt Schaub this week against the Seattle D.
Key Injuries: Spencer Ware FB, SEA (out), Andre Johnson WR, HOU (questionable)
Start 'Em: Marshawn Lynch, Russell Wilson, Sidney Rice, Golden tate, Seahawks DEF, Andre Johnson, Arian Foster, Ben Tate, DeAndre Hokins, Texans DEF
Philadelphia Eagles @ Denver Broncos,Sunday 9/29, 4:25PM
Match-up We Love: Eric Decker, WR
Remember during fantasy draft time when many people were passing up Eric Decker because the Broncos' had acquired Wes Welker, and it just made sense that Welker would cut into Decker's production. Remember after the first game of the year, when Decker was the only guy in Denver's receiving corp to not have a monster game? Well, don't look now, but Eric Decker has been a top 10 ranked fantasy WR since, and a match-up against the porous defense that has allowed the third most fantasy points to opposing receivers could lead to Decker being the top scoring fantasy wideout on Sunday.
Analysis; Eric Decker is an absolute must start this week against the Eagles.
Match-up We Hate: Eagles DEF
The Eagles defense shouldn't even be owned unless you're in an extremely deep league, but if you happen to own them, do not start them this week. Even against weaker teams, the Eagles defense simply can not stop anyone from scoring. With all the weapons in Denver, and how locked in Peyton Manning is right now, it's not out of the realm of possibilities for the Broncos to drop 50 on Philly. Seriously.
Analysis: DO NOT USE THE EAGLES DEFENSE THIS WEEK !!! If you happen to own them, drop them and look for better options on waivers.
Key Injuries: Champ Bailey CB, DEN (questionable), Patrick Chung S, PHI (questionable)
Start 'Em: Peyton Manning, Eric decker, Demayrius Thomas, Wes Welker, Julius Thomas, Knowshon Moreno, Broncos DEF, Michael Vick, DeSean Jackson, Lesean McCoy, Brent Cellek
Dallas Cowboy @ San Diego Chargers, Sunday 9/29, 4:25PM
Match-up We Love: DeMarco Murray, RB
Last week, DeMarco Murray ran all over a very overrated St. Louis defense to the tune of 175 yards and a score. This week he gets to face a San Diego defense that ranks 28th in the NFL against the run. With the exception of a tough match-up against the Chiefs, the Dallas offense has been clicking, and all signs point to Murray putting up high-end RB1 numbers this week.
Analysis: Start DeMarco Murray with confidence this week.
Match-up We Hate: Ryan Mathews, RB
He looked to be showing some signs of life there for a brief second, but then he returned to stinking up the joint. I really liked Mathews coming into this year, but he's completely lacked production, and continues to lose touches to Danny Woodhead and Ronnie Brown. This is quickly becoming a disaster year for Mathews, and at this point, it's understandable if you feel you should drop Mathews for a hot free agent.
Analysis: Nothing to see here. Stay away from Mathews this week, and start searching for his replacement if you own him.
Key Injuries: Malcolm Floyd WR, SD (out), Miles Austin WR, DAL (out), DeMarcus Ware DE, DAL (probable)
Start 'Em: Tony Romo, Demarco Murray, Dez Bryant, Jason Witten, Cowboys DEF, Phillip Rivers, Vincent Brown, Antony Gates, Danny Woodhead
