Waiver Wire Pickups - 2013 Fantasy Football
Percy Harvin (WR, Seattle Seahawks)
ANALYSIS: Harvin is currently on the reserve/PUP list and won't be available to return until Week 7. However, if you are in a league with 12+ teams and/or deep benches, Harvin's definitely a player worth stashing. When healthy, he can be a real difference maker as far as his scoring ability. Over his career, he has battled injuries, so be aware that's a risk that comes with owning him. Harvin is on a new team with deep playoff hopes, and he will be that key player to take them there. If you are a forward-thinking owner with room on the bench, stash him and reap the rewards.
Cordarrelle Patterson (WR, Minnesota Vikings)
ANALYSIS: When Harvin was traded to Seattle, the Vikings needed a playmaker to fill that loss. Patterson was drafted this year (29th overall) and will play in roles very similar to those Harvin held (PR/KR, Slot WR). Currently, Patterson is behind Jerome Simpson on the depth chart, but I anticipate that won't last long. Patterson flashed some exciting potential in the preseason and could be a player that develops through the season. If you are in a PPR or return league, be sure to place Patterson on your watch list.
Joique Bell (RB, Detroit Lions)
ANALYSIS: Last year, Bell provided a spark to the Lions run game after injuries depleted their rushing attack. Bellput up solid numbers given the pass-heavy offense (414 yards. on the ground and 485 rec. yds.). This preseason, he continued to show his value (91 rec. yds., 6.5 yds./carry) and won the backup running back job behind Reggie Bush. Bush has injury history which will ultimately provide an opportunity for Bell. Bush will not be an every down RB, and Bell will get his opportunities. Since Bell has value in both the passing and rushing game, he is an ideal player to add in deep PPR leagues. At minimum, if you are a Bush owner you should grab Bell as a handcuff.
Brent Celek (TE, Philadelphia Eagles)
