With Backlash in the rear-view mirror, the focus now turns to Saudi Arabia for WWE Night of Champions. Although the card is somewhat of a mystery, the WWE Universe is anxiously awaiting the crowning of the new World Heavyweight Champion. But first, a tournament will commence beginning Monday, May 8.
WWE has since announced who the participants will be. That said, we still took the opportunity to do "fantasy booking" surrounding some names who could have been involved.
Gunther
Gunther has been the Intercontinental Champion for nearly a year. He's one of the most popular WWE Superstars on the roster, so fans would certainly be receptive if he captured the World Heavyweight Championship.
Brock Lesnar
Lesnar is a free agent, but he can't go after Roman Reigns, so the World Heavyweight Championship may appeal to him. Of course, there would be more than a few unhappy WWE fans if "The Beast" were to win the title. While Lesnar has the credentials, he wouldn't regularly defend the belt, which isn't what Triple H was going for.
Cody Rhodes
Rhodes is undoubtedly in the running to win the World Heavyweight Championship. However, with many still sour about his loss to Roman Reigns at Wrestlemania 39, winning this title wouldn't have the same effect.
Otis
Remember when Otis won the Money in the Bank ladder match? Many still do and have been looking for the big man to get back into the title picture. The fans would love it, but "Otise" would first have to give up modeling.
LA Knight
Knight has been on a roll. But his insertion into the championship picture may not come until Money in the Bank, as he's an excellent choice to win the briefcase.
Drew McIntyre
Although there are rumblings that McIntyre won't return to the company, he's someone fans would embrace. Perhaps an elevated role and some extra cash would be enough to get him back in the ring?
Austin Theory
Theory came off a big win over John Cena at Wrestlemania 39. However, he may not be ready at this point in his career. For now, he can focus on the United States Championship.
Logan Paul
There wouldn't be a better way to get eyes on the new World Heavyweight Championship than having it around Paul's waist. Not many wrestling traditionalists would be on board. At the same time, there's no denying it would create a buzz.
Bron Breakker
It probably isn't easy being the son of Rick Steiner and nephew of Scott Steiner. At the same time, Breakker has shined since debuting in NXT. While he could remain in NXT and develop, a run as the World Heavyweight Champion would propel him to another level.
Seth "Freakin" Rollins
Rollins is the favorite to win the belt, with the company seemingly setting it up since Triple H announced the title. Don't be surprised if he walks out of Saudi Arabia as the new World Heavyweight Champion.
