ANALYSIS: Detroit Tigers shortstop/third baseman Willi Castro was a revelation for the team in 2020. He was the team's best hitter by just about every metric as he slashed .349/.381/.550 with six home runs, 24 RBI and 21 runs over just 36 games. This year, he figures to be one of the team's top hitters once again. He's started each of the team's eight games and has hit in the top-third of the lineup each time out.

Castro has gone 8-for-33 through his first eight games, slashing .242/.265/.303. He's still searching for some power as he only has one extra-base hit on the year, a triple that came in the second game of the year. However, despite the lack of power thus far, Castro has been consistently hitting the ball hard, even harder than his breakout 2020 season. His average exit velocity so far has been 89.5 mph, up from 85.3 mph in 2020, and he has a 38.5% hard-hit rate, up from 31.9% in 2020. He has a solid 19.2% fly ball rate and a solid 30.8% line drive rate. All of this heavily suggests that the power numbers should come soon.
Add Castro in leagues of 12 teams or deeper. If he's available in your AL-only league, he needs to be added there as well. He's the Tigers' everyday shortstop and will be in a prime hitting spot for the team all year. He should contribute stats across the board, everywhere other than stolen bases.
