Green Bay Packers running back MarShawn Lloyd (ankle) hasn't had a chance to prove himself yet in 2024. He was drafted in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft and was likely originally planned to be used in a timeshare with team lead back Josh Jacobs. Unfortunately, that hasn't happened.
He handed just six attempts, rushing for 15 yards, and caught one pass for three yards before being pulled from his Week 2 contest against the Indianapolis Colts. He was diagnosed with an ankle injury, placed on injured reserve, and hasn't been activated or played in any game action since.
So when is Lloyd returning to practice, and when could he take the field again this season?

MarShawn Lloyd Injury Update for Fantasy Football
Updates on the rookie's injury situation have been interestingly sparse. There have been literally no updates since it was reported that he wasn't ready for practice. He originally hurt his ankle, and it looks like the recovery could take some time.
Packers rookie 3rd round pick Marshawn Lloyd has been placed on IR after hurting his ankle on Sunday and will miss the next several games.

It's a disappointing start to the season for the rookie who was electric in his final season at USC. It's likely that when he returns, if fully healthy, he could make a big impact on this offense, but it's looking like that will be later rather than sooner. The lack of signaled optimism from the Packers organization is a bit concerning.
MarShawn Lloyd Fantasy Football Outlook
When he can play, he should be one of the waiver wire steals of the year. He's in an elite offense headed by head coach and excellent offensive mind Matt LaFleur. He's one of the best architects of offenses in the NFL, and he should call plays that maximize Lloyd's explosive ability.
#GoPackGo knows MarShawn Lloyd has a penchant for bouncing runs.
Good job setting him up for success with a play designed to do it. pic.twitter.com/lXIJRNK6kM

Green Bay has historically preferred committee backfields, so the presence of Jacobs doesn't mean Lloyd won't be able to have an impact. He should be a priority add once he's healthy -- it may only be one or two weeks before a great free-agent pickup becomes someone you have to spend FAAB or a precious waiver claim on.
