One and Done Selections - The CJ Cup Byron Nelson
In this feature, our golf staff of Joe Nicely, Spencer Aguiar, Joe Idone, Matt Miller, Byron Lindeque, and our special guest will provide their weekly golf picks every Wednesday. The purpose of this article is to present you with alternative options to consider and hopefully make your selection a much easier process weekly. With that plan in mind, let's get started!
Joe Nicely - Tom Hoge
The pride of Fargo, North Dakota,"Tommy Tables" has quietly put together an impressive 2024. To say he's been hot with the irons would be an understatement, as the only player who's been statistically better than Hoge in SG: APP this year is Scottie Scheffler. Yeah...pretty impressive stuff.
He'll enter the week ranked first in the CJ CUP field in SG: APP over both long and short-term measurements. That sharp ball-striking has led Hoge to top-25 results in seven of his last 10 starts. While his track record at TPC Craig Ranch doesn't blow you away, a T17 in a 2022 visit is encouraging, especially when we consider the strength - or lack thereof - of this field.
Yearly Earnings - $5,620,626
Yearly Cuts Made - 13/15
Joe Idone - Tom Kim
You should have plenty of names at your disposal this week to choose from with such a weak field at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson. I am going with a high upside pick in Tom Kim as my One and Done selection. He's shown the ability to torch birdie-fest events that are held at TPC Courses in the past. Frankly, his 3 wins in the last 2 years prove his win equity and has been good enough to make him the highest ranked OWGR player in the entire field.
Yearly Earnings - $2,198,295
Yearly Cuts Made - 9/15

Spencer Aguiar - Jordan Spieth
Alternate - Adam Schenk
The recent form for Jordan Spieth does leave a ton to be desired, but you don't have to look any further than his Texas pedigree to know that this is a spot for him to get back on track.
Wide-open fairways should help his inaccuracy off the tee, and Spieth ranks first in my model for past Texas success and expected scoring on similar fairway complexes.
I have no issues considering Jaeger, Schenk or Mitchell over this route if you have somewhere else you want to play the American, although I do not.

Matt Miller - Jordan Spieth

Byron Lindeque - Byeong Hun An
Byeong Hun An is 2nd in my model, has had multiple top-5 finishes this year and now finally finds himself teeing it up in an event much more watered down than the signature events and Masters (T16) he has been keeping himself busy with. I have been on Benny about as often as anybody in the outright market and was the victim of the Grayson-bomb-Benny-Brick combo to finish 2nd in Hawaii. It’s safe to say that there is a bit of history between him and I, with him owing me my pound of outright fleshy greenbacks.
I would imagine the masses who haven’t used Si Woo Kim yet, are flocking towards him this week. There simply is not enough upside in his recent set of results to warrant joining the #KimKult in the OAD streets. We would have to go all the way back to June of last year for his last top-5. An the other hand, has two top-5s this year and if we can see a bounce back with the putter, the ball striking has been scintillating this year and enters the week 5th in the field in that department. Si Woo likely gets the masses to the promised land, but if he doesn’t, Benny should give us a great shot at hitting our first winner of the year and his first win on the PGA Tour.
