Nicky Lopez Optioned To Triple-A
4 years agoThe Kansas City Royals have optioned second baseman Nicky Lopez to Triple-A. Lopez had a tough spring with the team. Over 34 at-bats, he slashed .118/.231/.147 with 13 strikeouts and only one extra-base hit, a double. Lopez was projected to be the team's primary second baseman this year, but now it appears as if Whit Merrifield will shift from right field to second base to start the year. Lopez, who turned 26 earlier this month, has slashed .228/.279/.307 over 159 Major League games the past two years. He had a strikeout rate of just 12.7% in 2019, but it increased to 21.4% in 2020.
