Marlins Choose Skip Schumaker As Next Manager
2 years agoThe Miami Marlins have decided to hire St. Louis Cardinals bench coach Skip Schumaker as their next manager. Schumaker is a first-time manager after playing 11 big-league seasons, his first eight coming with the Cardinals. He won a World Series with the organization in 2011. Schumaker was the bench coach in 2022 after four seasons as an assistant with the San Diego Padres. The Marlins' managerial position opened up this year when Don Mattingly, who had been the club's skipper for seven seasons, stepped down as the team's all-time leader in wins. The Fish finished fourth in the stacked National League East division this year with a record of 69-93, only above the last-place Washington Nationals.
