Kyle Zimmer Records First Save On Sunday
4 years agoKansas City Royals relief pitcher Kyle Zimmer pitched a clean 10th inning against the Chicago White Sox on Sunday to earn his first save of the year. He needed just 14 pitches and he recorded two strikeouts in the inning, allowing no walks or hits. It was an odd save situation as the team's presumed primary closer Greg Holland pitched the eighth and ninth innings and earned the win. Zimmer is off to a great start to the season. He's made four appearances and has pitched 6.1 innings, allowing just one hit and two walks without allowing a run. He could be a top save candidate at some point this year, but the Royals have several other guys breathing down Holland's neck as well, most notably Jesse Hahn, Wade Davis and Josh Staumont.
