Justin Herbert Has Option Picked Up
2 years agoAccording to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport, the Chargers picked up the fifth-year option on quarterback Justin Herbert (shoulder) on Friday. He is now in line to make nearly $30 million guaranteed in 2024. Of course, the announcement is a formality, as it allows both sides to work on a long-term extension. The signal-caller has been a valuable commodity for Los Angeles since being selected No. 6 overall in the 2020 NFL Draft. In his three years in the league, Herbert has thrown for 14,089 yards, 94 touchdowns, and 35 interceptions while completing 66.9% of his attempts. He was also the Rookie of the Year in 2020 and made the Pro Bowl in 2021. Herbert is progressing after undergoing surgery in January to repair a torn labrum in his non-throwing shoulder and should be ready to go to begin the 2023-24 campaign. However, despite seeing a dip in production in 2022 (along with the injury), Herbert is considered a top-five fantasy quarterback, no matter what happens with contract negotiations.
