4 years agoChicago White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu has reached base in each of his 11 games so far this year. He's slashing .209/.314/.372 with two home runs, seven walks, nine RBI and five runs. His current walk rate (13.7%) is nearly double where it was last year (6.9%), but he's also striking out at a significantly higher rate so far this year (31.4%) than last year (22.5%). He isn't making as much hard contact through the early going this year. He's registered barrels on just two of his 28 batted balls so far, leading to a 7.1% barrel rate which is well below last year's 14.3% clip. Abreu was one of the league's best all-around hitters in 2020 and should have another big year ahead.
