2 months agoIslam Makhachev defended his lightweight title for the fourth time at UFC 311 on Saturday. Makhachev was supposed to fight Arman Tsarukyan but on Friday, he was forced out of the bout and Moicano stepped up on short notice. Makhachev did get hit a good punch early on, but he got Moicano down and submitted him in the first round. With the win, Makhachev became the first fighter in UFC history to defend the lightweight title for the fourth time. He's now 27-1 as a pro.

2 months agoIslam Makhachev (26-1) is set to defend his lightweight title in the main event of UFC 311 on Saturday as he rematches Arman Tsarukyan. Makhachev is coming off a submission win over Dustin Poirier and enters the bout as a sizeable favorite as DraftKings has him at a salary of $9,400. In the UFC, Makhachev is 15-1 with 10 wins by stoppage while he was knocked out in his lone loss. Makhachev beat Tsarukyan by decision in a three-round fight in 2019. If Makhachev wins, he will further cement himself as one of the best lightweights.

Islam Makhachev Retains Lightweight Title
10 months agoIslam Makhachev retained his lightweight title in a five-round thriller against Dustin Poirier in the main event of UFC 302 in Newark, New Jersey. On Saturday night, these two warriors put on a show that certainly lived up to the hype. Much to the surprise of many, the fight made it to the fifth round as Poirier pushed for the finish, but Makhachev managed to take him down and sink in the D'arce choke. In 22:42 of action, Makhachev landed five takedowns and 88 significant strikes. This victory marks Makhachev's third successful defense of his lightweight championship.

Makhachev cemented his position as the #1 pound-for-pound fighter with a brutal first-round knockout victory against Alexander Volkanovski in October after defeating him in a very competitive decision earlier that year. Makhachev enters the fight as the favorite as DraftKings has him at a salary of $9,500. Makhachev is 14-1 in the UFC.

Islam Makhachev Defends Crown At UFC 294
1 year agoIslam Makhachev remains at the top of the lightweight division, defeating Alexander Volkanovski by first-round knockout in the main event of UFC 294 on Saturday. The two champions fought for a second time in Saturday's main event in Abu Dhabi, and once again it was Makhachev who emerged victorious. Makhachev unloaded a vicious head kick that knocked Volkanovski down before some ground-and-pound punches secured a devastating first-round knockout. In 3:06 of action, Makhachev landed 24 significant strikes. With this win, Makhachev settled whatever debate remained from his first win over Volkanovski.
