Franchise Tag Is Realistic For Saquon Barkley
2 years agoNew York Giants running back Saquon Barkley was offered around $12 million per season on a new contract during the team's bye week, according to sources. However, general manager Joe Schoen said the two sides weren't close in value. Barkley said on Sunday that he didn't necessarily want to set the market, but he reportedly wants near Christian McCaffrey's $16 million average. The Giants have a limit to how far they'll go, so the franchise tag for Barkley in 2023 is very realistic. The 25-year-old stayed healthy and carried the Giants offense for the majority of the year, finishing with a career-high 295 carries, career-high 1,312 yards and 10 rushing touchdowns while adding 57 receptions on 76 targets for 338 additional yards over 16 regular season contests. Barkley finished as the RB6 in half-point PPR scoring, so he'll be in demand as a high-end RB1 no matter where he's playing in 2023.
