Brent Honeywell Jr. Pitches Two Scoreless Innings In MLB Debut
4 years agoTampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Brent Honeywell Jr. was flawless in his MLB debut against the New York Yankees on Sunday. He pitched two innings and retired all six batters he faced on 21 pitches. He recorded his first two MLB strikeouts on Giancarlo Stanton and Gleyber Torres. He was replaced in the game in the third inning by Michael Wacha, who went on to allow three runs in the third. Honeywell's debut was planned to be a short outing as he continues to work his way back from multiple surgeries on his right elbow. Honeywell was the top pitching prospect in the Rays organization at one point and it's great to see him finally take the mound in an MLB game. Due to his success on Sunday, he should return to an opener role once again. His next start will probably be on Friday, which would again be against the Yankees.
