Brad Keller Shelled On Opening Day
4 years agoKansas City Royals starting pitcher Brad Keller was shelled by the Texas Rangers on Opening Day. He pitched 1 1/3 innings and allowed nine hits, two walks and six earned runs without striking out a single batter. Luckily, Rangers starter Kyle Gibson was about equally as bad and the Royals offense helped prevent Keller from earning a loss on the day. The Royals wound up winning the shootout 14-10. Keller was fantastic for the Royals in 2020, going 5-3 with a 2.47 ERA and 1.02 WHIP, but he's a weak strikeout pitcher. He had a strikeout rate of just 16.3% last year. It's going to be tough for him to replicate his 2020 success, but he'll try to bounce back from Thursday's rough outing his next time on the mound, when he faces the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday.
