2 years agoAccording to Panthers general manager Scott Fitterer, quarterback Andy Dalton is projected to be under center come Week 1. "We went out and signed Andy Dalton for a reason," stated Fitterer during an interview with Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio. "If Andy's the guy to start the season, and he's the starter right now heading into the season, then he'll be the guy. We say it's an open competition, but Frank did say, 'hey, Andy's our guy right now. He'll walk into the season as the starter, and then as you know, the young guys compete underneath him." Dalton signed with the Panthers during the offseason after playing in New Orleans during the 2022-23 campaign. In 14 games with the Saints, he threw for 2,871 yards, 18 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. He also completed a career-high 66.7% of his attempts. Of course, the obvious plan is for 2023 No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young to learn and develop under the veteran signal-caller. But as long as Dalton maintains a grip on the starting job, he'll have value in deep, multi-quarterback setups.--Dennis Clausen - RotoBaller
