Can Sevilla Stop Real Madrid?
It is an interesting season of sorts for Unai Emery's men from Seville. Starting the season as potential title dark horses, they almost inevitably felt the weight of their own expectations, and consequently began to tumble down the table. The initial hiccups were somewhat ironed out as they went on a good run of matches although the last round loss to Villarreal stopped their four match loss-less run. Nevertheless they should be reasonably confident ahead of this match, unless, of course, they decide to lay low after the midweek thumping by Manchester City in Champions League.
Real Madrid is leading the league, but their performances have yet to fully convince their supporters of their status as future champions. Rafael Benitez has, it seems, mastered the art of winning games as his side is the only undefeated team left in La Liga. With Barcelona waiting in the wings in the next round, a win would be an ideal way of going to the international break.
Will Sevilla be able to stop Real Madrid, just the way they stopped Barcelona before the last international break? Unlikely but don’t discount them yet, they could end up surprising you!
Can Neymar And Suarez Keep Barca Near The Top?
In the absence of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez are lifting the spirits of the Camp Nou faithful. With Messi expected to be back for the El Clasico, although this is still unconfirmed, the supporters will hope that they won't lose ground on the league leaders.
Villarreal, though, isn't an easy fish. Their losses to Levante and Celta Vigo took some shine off their campaign which had, up until that point, been very commendable. ‘The Yellow Submarine’ will, however, have to be on top of its game to stun the Nou Camp faithful.
This is traditionally a fixture that Barcelona dominated with the last win for Villarreal coming way back in 2008. Will Villarreal find Messi-less Barca good enough to change that record? Possible but not probable!
Can Celta Vigo Continue To Impress?
Celta Vigo is, undoubtedly, the underdogs of the campaign so far. With free-flowing football that has endeared them to neutrals, they are already a team most feared. Admirably, their only loss came against Real Madrid while the thumping win against Barcelona has been the high point of their campaign thus-far. However, with the focus now firmly on them, will they be able to continue their form?
Valencia is alternating victories with defeats but they are still hanging on the coat tails of the top six. The clamour for consistency is quite evident but it is unlikely to be attained in this fixture.
There are other interesting games also on offer with Las Palmas and Real Sociedad fighting, what could turn out to be a six pointer. Atletico Madrid will try to revive their status as contenders with their game against Sporting Gijon. Surprise package Eibar will look to stay in the top six and work towards their pursuit of a European place.
The league may be a two-horse race but La Liga is definitely not short of excitement. With so many interesting games on offer, watch out for the continued footballing buffet coming out of Spain.
