ANALYSIS: A career day for Denver Broncos quarterback Drew Lock in Week 14 also led to a breakout game from rookie receiver K.J. Hamler, who caught two of his three targets for 86 yards and two touchdowns.
The speedy 5'9" Hamler has shown flashes of big play ability throughout the season, but this past week was the first time he'd reached 80 receiving yards this year. He also only had one touchdown all year prior to Week 14.
Hamler's inconsistency before his big game this past week can be heavily attributed to quarterback play for the Broncos. Apart from essentially not having a quarterback in Week 12 against the New Orleans Saints, the Broncos have had pretty awful quarterback play all year. Lock has a quarterback rating of just 74.8 on the year and he's thrown for 13 interceptions to go along with his 13 touchdowns. He's also only completed 57.3% of his passes. Lock's four-touchdown performance in Week 14 could help get him back on track and if that's the case, Hamler has a shot to do some damage over the next few weeks.
Add Hamler in deep leagues if you need receiver help the rest of the way this year. Hamler has two great matchups coming up against the Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Chargers. He has intriguing boom-or-bust potential as a WR3/WR4 or flex in deep leagues in those matchups.
