Los Angeles Rams running back Kyren Williams has stepped up as the team's undisputed RB1 this year. Following the in-season trade of Cam Akers to the Minnesota Vikings, Williams has been a fantasy monster in the early going and has taken over as the workhorse back in Los Angeles.
Williams appeared to injure himself in the Rams' overtime win over the Indianapolis Colts in Week 4. Despite playing the entire game, the 23-year-old back is tending to a hip contusion.
Is Williams injured or healthy? Will he play in Week 5 against the Philadelphia Eagles? Let's dive in.
Kyren Williams Injury Update for Fantasy Football
Williams (hip) had his best game of his career in Week 4, rushing 25 times for 103 yards and two touchdowns while catching three passes for 24 yards. The 23-year-old back went over 100 rush yards for the first time in his short career, and his hip injury certainly didn't affect his play on Sunday.
He still saw 72% of the team snaps and played all four quarters, including the Rams opening drive touchdown in overtime. While we don't know when the injury occurred for Williams, it's a good sign he didn't miss many snaps in the win.
With the young running back playing through the hip issue in the 29-23 overtime win, this injury is expected to be minor for Williams. He should be good to go for Week 5. But you should still monitor his practice reps leading up to Sunday, just in case this is a bigger issue than originally reported.
Should I Start Kyren Williams In Week 5
Assuming Williams is good to go for Week 5, he should definitely be in fantasy lineups this weekend. Even in a tough matchup against a vicious Eagles defensive line, the Rams running back carries RB1 upside every week due to his high workload and usage on offense.
The Eagles are giving up just 63 rush yards per game this season, which doesn't bode well for Williams in Week 5. But, as we saw in Week 2 against the San Francisco 49ers, the 23-year-old back can still be a top-tier fantasy option against any defense. In that Week 2 game, he had six catches on 10 targets for 48 yards and one touchdown through the air.
Williams should be in your lineup every week moving forward and is an RB1 for the rest of the year. He is currently the RB4 in half-PPR formats while averaging 19 fantasy points in those half-PPR leagues.
