Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox (6/4/19)

Ellis Canady reviews last night's MLB box scores (6/3) and provides fun opinions on a variety of topics to help fantasy baseball owners with their lineups.

Welcome to the Tuesday, June 4th edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.

Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.

In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on June 4th. Enjoy them. You can even respond with your own thoughts on Twitter @EllisCan2.

Daily Musings

  • Another Usurper falls: Keston Hiura demoted (five HR, nine RBI, one SB, .281AVG is not good enough for the bigs, kid (smothered, covered, chopped, diced w/sarcasm). Justifiable or otherwise, team has a plan...right?
  • Javier Baez w/14HR, 37RBI, .301AVG. NICE! But w/32%K rate (fifth-worst); 43% chase rate (second-worst); 18.8% swinging-strike rate(third-worst). Let's be thankful for the third-largest buoy in the baseball waters (.399 BABIP)
  • Catcher HR day:
  • Christian Walker w/third HR(11) in five games. 30%K could use some improvement but if he’s gonna smash a couple of balls now and then, we can live with it. 93mph avg exit velo is top-10 and 10.1% Brls/PA will help secure some stats hitting in the middle of an underestimated D’backs lineup.
  • Corey Seager continues latest bout of destruction w/four HR, 13RBI, .304AVG in last two weeks. We've said to buy low for a while. Now that opportunity has dried up. Move your sights elsewhere, like Jose Ramirez.
  • Walker Buehler coasts past Arizona (eight IP, one ER, 11K). Despite three terrible outings this year, he still has a 3.69ERA w/50%Ground-Ball rate. Back to elite status. He gets the Giants next. Just a Walker’n the Park. Yep, bad pun Tuesday.
  • Corbin Martin, you are not our guy. Lasted three innings, presenting Mallex Smith (three) and Edwin Encarnacion (16) w/long distance deposits. So, is it Framber Valdez time. Nobody is screaming for Josh James anymore. Forrest Whitley doesn’t appear ready & dealing w/shoulder fatigue.
  • Aaron Nola falls to the Friars (5.1IP, six ER, five K, three BB). Velo solid. still needs to improve 10%BB. Not concerned about him. I’d buy low if I could.
  • Congrats to all the young men that were drafted(baseball), making the next step toward their ultimate dream.
  • FAAB Collection:
  • Enjoy the full slate of Tuesday games.
