NHL DFS Picks for Thursday, January 7th
Welcome back for another night of daily fantasy hockey on DraftKings and FanDuel. Tonight we have seven games on the NHL schedule and only the Toronto Maple Leafs are playing a game on back to back nights. It is looking like we are going to have some elite goaltender options to choose from. Be sure to check the chat and Twitter during the day to make sure which goalies are confirmed to start. Most teams release this information following morning skate.
Let's dig in to tonight's matchups and find some core plays.
Jonathan Quick - Goaltender, Kings (DraftKings - $8,200 FanDuel - $9,100)
At home on Thursday night as the biggest favorite(-250) on the board. They welcome the Leafs who are playing back to back games in California. Quick has been tremendous lately winning five straight games and six of his last seven starts.
Evgeny Kuznetsov - Center, Capitals (DraftKings - $5,900 FanDuel - $6,300)
He has been red hot lately with three multi point games in his last four and is up to 37 points on the year with 10 on the powerplay. The Capitals remain the #1 team in the standings and own the leagues #2 offense and #2 powerplay.
Tyler Toffoli - Winger, Kings (DraftKings - $5,900 FanDuel - $5,700)
One of the best matchups of the night is Kings at home to the Leafs. Toffoli has really started to heat up again after a prolonged slump and has picked up 11 points in his last 10 games. He provides a high floor with shots and is perfect for cash games.
Wayne Simmonds - Winger, Flyers (DraftKings - $5,300 FanDuel - $5,900)
After a very slow start to the season, he has finally started to pick up the pace with points in four of his last five games. The Flyers have been shuffling lines around to try and create some chemistry. He has seen time with Claude Giroux and Jakub Voracek recently and it has been working.
Matt Niskanen - Defense, Capitals (DraftKings - $4,500 FanDuel - $4,900)
He has seen a huge increase in minutes lately with the absence of Brooks Orpik and John Carlson. He went from an average of 23-25 minutes a game to 27-30 minutes a game and has picked up points in four straight games. The value will soon be gone as Orpik and Carlson will return very soon so use him while you can.
