NHL DFS Picks for Monday, January 18th
Welcome to the daily fantasy hockey picks for FanDuel and DraftKings. Monday night brings us a small five game slate in the NHL with two teams (PIT, FLA) playing on back to back nights. There will be a few extra picks tonight as there will be no cheatsheet for Monday night.
Let's take a look at a few core plays for tonight.
Al Montoya - Goaltender, Panthers (DraftKings - $7,200 FanDuel - $7,700)
The Panthers have lost two straight games but still sit atop the Atlantic Division with 57 points and a +18 goal differential. Montoya looks to get the nod Monday as the Panthers are playing on back to back nights. He has been impressive this season with a 7-1-1- record and .937 save % as the backup to Roberto Luongo.
Louis Domingue - Goaltender, Coyotes (DraftKings - $6,600 FanDuel - $6,700)
He has won five of his last seven starts with the two losses both coming in overtime. He has an impressive record of 7-2-3 with a .928 save % on the season and has been a pleasant surprise while filling in for the injured Mike Smith. The Coyotes have won six of their last 10 games and currently sit in 2nd place in the Pacific Division. They will face the Sabres on Monday who own a -17 goal differential and have lost seven of their last 10 games.
Matt Duchene - Center, Avalanche (DraftKings - $6,700 FanDuel - $8,000)
Has been a very consistent option lately with 10 points in his last 10 games with 36 shots on goal while averaging close to 4.5 fantasy points per game. He will look to build on his fifth 20 goal season and help push the Avs in to the playoffs(currently one point behind in wildcard) on Monday in a road matchup in Winnipeg.
Joe Thornton - Center, Sharks (DraftKings - $5,100 FanDuel - $5,300)
With 14 points in his last 10 games, Big Joe continues to be one of the best value plays in daily fantasy this year. With the consistency he has been providing, he should be priced at or above $6,000. The Sharks get a home matchup vs. the Senators who rank 27th in goals allowed per game. He makes a great pick in any format tonight.
Patric Hornqvist - Winger, Jets (DraftKings - $6,400 FanDuel - $5,700)
He makes a terrific play in any format on Monday as he continues to provide consistency to the Penguins lineup. He has picked up 10 points in his last 10 games(Five on the PP) with 45 shots on goals and a +4 rating. The Penguins head back on the road Monday for a tough matchup in St.Louis.
Jonathan Huberdeau - Winger, Panthers (DraftKings - $5,500 FanDuel - $6,100)
He has gone two straight games without a point but has still tallied 10 points in his last 10 games for the Panthers. In that time he has also picked up 25 shots on goal, five blocks, and a +6 rating. Florida sits atop the Atlantic Division and have won seven of their last 10 games and welcome the Oilers to town on Monday who rank 26th in goals allow per game(2.89).
Oliver Ekman-Larsson - Defense, Coyotes (DraftKings - $6,100 FanDuel - $5,500)
He has been one of the most under rated players in the NHL this season as he plays his home games in the desert. He is third in goals by a defensemen and fourth in total points and somehow didn't get voted into the All Star game. He provides a high floor almost every night as he averages around three shots on goal and a block per game. He has been hot lately with 11 points in his lat 10 games and gets a home matchup vs. the Sabres tonight.
Olli Maata - Defense, Penguins (DraftKings - $3,600 FanDuel - $3,900)
A value D man who could see an uptick in minutes and some extra powerplay time tonight. His blue line partner Kris Letang suffered a wrist injury on Friday and may have to sit out another game on Monday. Maatta has picked up points in three straight games and has a +7 rating over his last 10 games. A great option to save a but of salary to go towards some high end forwards tonight.
